Black America (and America in general) needs to heal first.

Then we can focus on making rap great again

  • Digestible substance as far as lyrics. Nothing too hard to grasp or too heavy to not be a pleasure to listen to, but aware enough about the current state of the world to where people can feel motivated to power through and/or change some of that s*** or at the very least their own lives.

That vapid s*** is over for everyone but the most famous of rappers and even they are seeing a decline.

Either that or just legitimately good party music. None of the stupid s***, none of the "my p**** out s***"; all that is played out. Just feel good, well written, fun music.

Also, rappers need to stop settling for the beaten path of the things they choose to say. There are a million songs about getting money, f***ing hoes, shooting guns, and everything under the sun even if it's conscious. They have to start tackling it more creatively or with more wit. Again, it doesn't have to be some lyrically complex multi-layered s***, just presented in a way to where it puts enough of a spin on things especially if it's a common subject.

i could easily see a scenario where we look at the deaths of XXXTENTACION, juice WRLD, and pop smoke collectively as the death of mainstream rap.

even at the time they died i thought it was a massive blow to the future of the genre, but now i look it as downright fatal. there was really no one whatsoever lined up to take their place as the standard bearers of the next generation.

to answer your question though...i guess just artists who are good at rapping but have some pop sensibilities? the bar is on the floor, honestly.

I seriously think we’d be in the same exact position if these mfs were still alive and I’m honestly tired about hearing about it. These guys were never going to drop anything revolutionary. X’s discog was a dumpster fire. Bro had no direction. Juice Wrld prob would’ve had the most success but again, I don’t think he’d even be able to reach Playboi Carti status or be even close to it. Pop smoke? Drill was never going to stick around. No one even talks about pop smoke anymore in like a reminiscent way, I don’t think he’d be a leading force in the game.

more top tier artists putting on small tier artists, on some risky s*** like for example ye giving nine vicious a chance to go crazy on adlibs for THIS A MUST and MAMAS FAVORITE

s*** can make rap a bit more interesting when we not using the same 5 features all the time

So like a Young White Avatar?

The true answer to this for a lot of ppl the is u simply cannot recapture feelings like that and ur not gonna be 19 again and unless u care to find what you like and engage in the same full earnestness and curiosity you did at that age it just won’t happen for you unless it’s a hollow Frankenstein of what it you remember it feeling like in ur youth. Mans just want 2015 pt2 if we being real but they would hate that. Cuz it would be too derivative. And if it wasn’t, it would be too different. After a certain age what makes youth culture exports engaging is entirely dependent on how much you can enjoy their perspectives and tastes, which is harder than ever in an internet era of algorithms and bubbles that affect both young AND older folks.

  • Also any real change would have to come from the yute

  • not the nonBlacks telling us who or wouldn't be a factor
