Drake/Kendrick beef was a cool send off but it's done. The genres been in decline for a decade. It's unfortunate because it's my favorite genre but the country has changed, young people (and the labels) clearly don't care as much as they used to, and there aren't as many new concepts to explore

Move on from the Atlanta coalition already. It's been the same 7 rappers running the same plays for over a decade and they are genuinely so stale now it hurts.

doechii and esdeekid are the most commercially successful of the 2024-2025 debuts tho. And both can rap pretty well.

another rap beef that makes everyone care again. I may be wrong but I dont think we will have another beef of this magnitude again. It just kinda felt like the avengers:infinity war/end game of rap. this s*** got restarted. The new generation is gonna have to find a way to produce some superstars of that caliber....

I think the next generation will be gravitated toward more obscure genres and ideas. We might see Noise and Experimental music make mainstream.

it will still need to be digestible but i think with the anti-ai sentiment of youth, there will
be a gravitation towards alternative and avante garde.

I mean how long are we supposed to pretend them getting high and just saying anything isn’t relatively low effort. It works when it works and they have moments outside of that but a refusal to call that what it is is how rap has become background placeholder music and the antics and aesthetics and personas have replaced the ingenuity that used to go into lyrics

I think the fans need to be more open minded cus a lot of these ppl only wanna hear street rap drill type s*** and that s*** is lowkey dead for good reason cus that s*** is hella bad influence

A lot of this gets at a big problem I see in current underground rap music. I don’t think a lot of the people that are into it are into it for the music, it seems to be more about the memes and the surrounding “subcultural” stuff than anything else.

i like the fact you now just find your niche. yeah it’s cool ppl can bond over a juggernaut artist like lil wayne or kanye but the internet means anyone can find that itch to scratch

Algorithm directed niches are a stop to fully zero agency for you when it comes music choice and eventually just ai music and you won’t tell the difference

People talk about the niche era of music but its more like a curated echo chamber lol
