The first real Supergirl movie should have been an origin film I’ll keep saying it. Good or not, making the first Supergirl movie an adaptation of woman of tomorrow was always an uphill battle box office wise if the film was anything less than one of the greatest superhero films of all time upon first watch. Origin stories are necessary, mandatory even for building a new audience amongst the general public for a superhero character in live action. It’s vital conditioning
Superman 1978
Batman 1989
Spider-Man 2002
Batman Begins 2005 after live action Batman’s reputation went down
Iron Man
The Avengers
Ofc these films are all amazing, but culturally they were what the characters needed because the origin-based nature of their stories conditioned audiences into looking to care for what these characters are about at their core.
Supergirl being bad is an added problem to its performance, looking bland from the get go didn’t help with interest from the general public going into it. But it should’ve been an origin film
Eh I think there's a lot orgin elements of this movie and story just not in a traditional sense and I think thats fine and desired tbh
Black panther for example is not an original story but has a lot of origin aspects to it

i'll say it man, as someone who doesn't know anything about supergirl... an origin story would've been appreciated. especially considering Superman wasn't an origin story really, Supergirl could've expanded a bit on where Clark comes from

That was a much different time, before comic book movies became a mainstay of pop culture. Also, all of those characters are not spin-offs of already established popular characters like Supergirl is.
That’s why I don’t think it would’ve made much of a difference if Supergirl was an origin film. The story being told wasn’t the issue, it was the lack of interest in the character in general

I hope we get stuck in the Dwayne Johnson DC so I can blame you

They told me DC "was back" last year tho...
FACTS! And change it will.
Somebody getting FIRED come Monday...
John Campea said something I agree with.
Was it that Gunn should decide if he wants to be a ceo or direct the movies?

Not Gunn

Was it the same people saying the Snyderverse was returning?

Yeah but I’m expanding it:
I don’t think he has to choose one or the other definitively, but I’d like to see an extended slate where he has no role other than the creative head of the studio.
Regardless of whether Supergirl (a movie I like mind you) was hurt by Gunn splitting attention between it and his own movie, I do think that in the long term it’ll prove to be a damaging strategy.
It’s rough for new DC that most of the Justice League already had movies this decade that flopped or came and went
Flash and Aquaman 2 were only 3 years ago, WW84 only like 5 years

He has a unique style as a filmmaker but his style is not conducive to an entire universe of films
I’m still waiting to see what this universe looks & feels like without Gunn’s creative style heavily influencing it. Maybe Lanterns will be that first peek of it?
