my job really is just writing so much and doing so little
it's like 95% legislative 5% engineering
I gotta write a software proposal soon.
Dragging my feet.
But how tf you end up doing legislation? lol thought you were engineering?
just got a sysadmin job offer after nearly 2 years in helpdesk. feel like I have a severe lack of experience but management liked me, and made an offer I just couldn’t refuse... gonna try and learn as much as I can

the entire IT department is a giant failure lol
all they do all day is shift blame and no one builds anything new. mostly just upkeep
they have to call consultants to do anything because everybody’s too afraid to own anything
in march apparently i’m going to get to deploy an app in AKS but other than that they’ve been giving me bs windows admin tasks and having me writing long justifications they keep denying or dragging their feet on
i always wondered how IT departments would get gutted and fail to migrate anything and after seeing the inside of this bank I see how it happens
I’ve literally been called in to fix this kind of crap but I feel more helpless from the inside cause of the culture

google is your friend

trial by fire is how you advance, just make sure you do some googling and reading whenever you're tasked with something new and document everything you do or learn for your future self and the team.
Almost about to be a month in. Crazy
Y'all read/watch anything outside of work when y'all first started?
In light of the news from Discord about verification, I'll be shutting down the discord server, unless someone would like to receive ownership of it.
@AlfredoMobsta can you update the link in OP?

Connecting fields the way to go
QA/IT Roles. I tried so many different ways. Nonstop updating my resume every quarter
Reached out to people from companies personally messaging them. Start up, small companies, recruiters.
S*** doesn't even make sense. Not even getting anything, On top of no support system
I'm qualified for QA whether entry, mid or senior level. I can do either and have the experience and even more than that
All this for something just to support the main thing. And time isn't slowing down. (I get it, you slow down, meditate, fix your energy to attract) but this has gone far too long
Do I just dive into AI or cybersecurity get certs real quick and apply? Like that's even gurantee
10+ career as a software engineer here, would love to get some sweet international gigs because pay sucks in my country

Security will probably be pretty tough. I guess I could consider myself senior at this point, and I'm not hearing back from any company I apply to. I had some good luck a couple years back, but the past year or so has been pretty abysmal. Then again, I'm solely looking for remote roles so you might have better luck with hybrid/on site roles
Devoting the next 60 days to studying for Security+ cert. Feel like I've exhausted all other options tbh. Already been at it for the last 2 weeks the "Get Certified Get Ahead" study book arrive this past Monday, so been kicking up my studying with it. Feel like I'm back in college.

still honestly feeling the same
i’m making a ton of money and everyone in leadership says i’ve been doing good so far so we will see long term about this job
it’s an experience i guess, never been on a tech team that barely does anything all day
the jobs far too political though i even told the cio and he agreed
still honestly feeling the same

Last sentence lmao bro
If you don’t have a budget set by your company, I’d recommend giving yourself a training budget for the year based on your finances.
I’ve capped myself at 5k.

Looking into alternatives...
i dont wanna resign 90 days in but like what point would it be less bad
imma try to stick it out for 6-12 months
i was so over this job already but now they making us go on site 3 days a week for 28 hours a week gonna be so much worse for me. the job offer i signed 100 days ago said 1 day a week
i already have multiple other interviews lined up also, one making even more money and it seems like 0 politics just fixing stuff in Azure and AWS
also another one from a huge credit union, idk

Damn, 3 times a week is awful. I'd bounce asap
