once a month and I’m currently on-call now hate this s***

Once a month we had that a few years back when we had some folks leave. Eventually got up to a 2 month rotation.

That’s tough though man, stay the course and keep learning. All you can do.

If your company has senior engineer level positions, that’s a massive resume builder point if you can make it there

we’ll see. I planned to only be here a year or so, but i’m about to become the de-facto lead of my team so that makes things more difficult

who has advice on landing my first cybersecurity role? I’ve been in helpdesk for 6 months and figured it’s probably not too early to start studying for some certifications. I’m told ISC2 certs are more worth pursuing than the CompTIA ones. Anyone able to attest to this?

Would you say it’s a good gateway into IT with growth potential? Trying to pivot out of my field. Would be impossible to get an IT job in my area given how oversaturated things are and how im starting from zero, but data center route looks wide open

What are y'all's thoughts on contract to hire roles? Got a pretty decent opportunity that'd give me a good bump in pay, but I kinda don't want to risk it, especially in this market. I have a good job now where I don't work very hard at all and still get praised lol, so I'm a bit conflicted

Just spent $600 on Ubiquiti gear for my new home.

    Ended up spending another $400

Good experience to get your foot in the door or to hold you until you find full time but by all means get out of those jobs as soon as you can bc they are awful

So I'm in an IT class, transitioning careers.

Question - for what you guys do day-to-day, did you learn mostly on the job (i.e., get trained by a colleague)?

Of course it's important to learn fundamentals, but I'm someone who feels like they need to know everything or I'm inferior/incompetent, so I've been trying to deep dive on everything tech and it's somewhat overwhelming.

    On the job, bro.

I got “lucky” starting out & got “blackpilled” standing next to FAANG wunderkints.

Made me feel inferior fora brief sec, but once you find out what you’re good at, through reps, your confidence will grow.

Remember, IT exists to serve the business, not to show off…
