what type of workouts would yall recommend if I want to build muscle and burn body fat? Right now I run 3.5 miles every other day, followed by 100 pushups, 50 incline pushups, 50 decline pushups. and pullups.
I used to lift often before the pandemic but I live in the country country now so there aren't any gyms around. So I'm trying to achieve this without a lot of weights
I have a barbell with a set of 20 lb plates and 2 sets of 10 lb plates. I think I should continue with my routine but I've often heard that too much cardio will make your physique look "flabby and soft" rather than chiseled and toned....
No offense but All your information is conjecture
No workout specifically will make you "build muscle and burn body fat"
In fact, nothing will make you build muscle and burn body fat at the same time.
If you want to get bigger (e.g get more muscles) you need to eat more food. This will make you gain both muscle and fat. Specifically you need to eat 500 calories above your TDEE.
The best workout to make you gain muscle is any strength training. Pick a program from thefitness.wiki
Do not NOT pick a Program. You will flounder and see little progress. Trust me.
@spacecadet
if i'm going to bulk i'm going to do a clean bulk for def

Sorry I never saw this for some reason
Look into lean bulk - I think it's 250 tdee over instead of 500 over.
Reddit.com/r/leanbulk I think
Honestly just depends on your self esteem too.
I know You probably don't want to see yourself get hella fat but if you think about it.. after you cut.. how are you going to look? Probably very skinny with little muscle at all
I feel like lean bulking is better for your goals and you'll waste a lot less time and at the same time you won't gain a lot of fat so you have more of a base / platform to work with, you feel me?
I leanbulked for a good year and I was skinny fat and saw amazing progress. IT takes a lil longer than the traditional bulk/cut cycle but it's great for self esteem and you p much consistently have a great physique bc of it

This is where I’m at now. I’m around 6’0 190-195
I want my waist a little more tapered. Take off some of that muffin top and I want to see my abs and that little V you get when you lean asf. But I also want to add muscle mass too. So essentially, I would have to cut weight first, maybe like 10-15 lbs, then build muscle??

If you cut 15lbs at a moderate pace while eating ~100g protein a day and lifting weights you would lowkey look diced. Then you could bulk from there. You already got a decent base of muscle.

Yes; you can only cut or bulk -- chose one or the other. There's no such thing as cutting fat and building muscle at the same time.
Your goals are to get abs/have a v taper. You already have a good platform of muscle. You should cut to achieve your goals.
Calculate your TDEE (tdeecalculator.net)
Eat 300-500 calories less than that
Keep hitting the gym regularly
You will see results

Body re-composition is 100% a thing but it takes longer than just doing cut/bulk cycles so in the end it makes more sense to cut/bulk unless you hate stuffing your face/feeling hungry and all of that.

True maybe I should have clarified that but I find newbies get way over their head into s*** and begin to flounder when really they should just stick to the basics

Yeah 100%. It's more efficient to just track your s*** and stay at a caloric deficit/surplus with ~100g protein and work hard rather than fuss over the small details.

The 100g of protein you keep mentioning is to ensure I maintain my muscle?Cause that’s the only thing that has be uneasy about cutting, I dont want to lose too much of what I already attained. Even though I know That’s kind of inevitable lol

It's inevitable but since you already got a decent foundation if you aim for a smaller caloric deficit and keep that protein high then the muscle loss will be small in the end. And when you lose that fat and you look all diced up in the mirror you won't give a f***
Dropped 10lbs of fat in 5 weeks!!! 20 days left cutting
what did you do
what did you do
750-1000 caloric deficit under maintenance cals for the 5 weeks. protein 200g
lift heavy
little cardio added in + I.F.
10k steps daily minimum
