I don't see what the issue is with them being middle aged and still running rap. The biggest artists don't always have to be in their early 20s. This is new for hip hop but we can embrace it and enjoy it.
There isn't an issue with it, and as long as they still create high quality music then it's something we should be grateful for and is something younger rappers can look up to
Kendrick, Drake, and Cole are like Lebron, Steph, and Durant.
They dominated the 2010's so much and were so balanced between skill and marketability that it's hard to see them getting replaced.
Plus, we live in a cycle of short attention spans, toxic stan culture, and lack of mass media so it's harder to sustain a superstar career in this day and age.
Even outside rap, there's people already counting O Rod out just because her latest album didn't do as well as Sour.
they dominated so much that future & thug snatched all the influence they had over the youth/ following generations by like 2016
And this all got replaced with are you tough, can someone from your city vouch that you are tough and/or do you look cool enough
I know gang culture has always been in rap, but man, its really sad how its affecting the art of Hip Hop. Hip Hop has always been for dreamers/outcast,an outlet for them to express themselves and their outlooks. Now s*** is being gatekept in the worst way possible. We're getting the same thing from rappers over and over cause, these are the type of characters being let in to thrive, were running off the dreamers/outcast cause now, you have to be a certain level if cool/ignorant/street or whatever.
A Lupe Fiasco would not have made it nowadays, but no one in this day and age has probably inspired as many kids as Lupe, as far as being different among his peers.
I definitely don't
Motherfuckers try to joke about having "intelligence" within Hip Hop, but bro, it really does take a certain type of intelligence/sensibility to be a great rapper in the traditional sense. You have to be witty with on point timing, like a great comedian, on top of having flows, making everything rhyme, coming up with concepts etc.
So many guys/girls out right now just lack so much imo.
It's not that hard
flexing ignorance make u look like a peon!
It's not ignorance, it's more so I'm not sure why people think this music transcends their friend group
These the only 3 rappers y’all listen to?
Neapolitan ice cream of rap, and that ice cream sucks
It's not ignorance, it's more so I'm not sure why people think this music transcends their friend group
tf is this even implying
ur saying destroy lonely is only popular in my friend group? that's pure fantasy on ur part
This exactly my point
Think he's gonna have a few beats on the fall off

I mean that's literally what The Roots - What They Do was about in 96 and it balanced itself out 10 years later when ye outsold 50

no like ur point literally did not get across wtf are u talking abt "destroy lonely is limited to ppls friend groups" what are u even saying there. ppl w no friends dont listen to lone?
are u trynna say that this is just music passed around ppls friend groups as opposed to more established s***? as if there's actually a meaningful difference there?
idk bruh but u just sound sped asf
I think consolidation of wealth has a lot to do with this as well. Labels are giving established artists like Drake half a billion when in the past that same amount of money might have been spread around to up and comers. Putting it all in a proven commodity seems less risky to a capitalist.
From the consumer side, with concert tickets being 5-6x as expensive as they were just a few years ago, people are more likely to just go see a few really popular artists they already like as opposed to seeing smaller shows on a more frequent basis.
Sounds like the film industry tbh.

To The Roots point though the fact that Kanye is the last real representation of that in the mainstream kinda goes with what they said. Ye is materialistic as hell and a stylistic son of the 90’s Puff/Hov runs lol
Especially in his Pastelle and his Bape s***

Talk about the music. Drake tour already beat this with less dates.
