  • The Big 3 are Drake, Future, and Travis

The reason theres no big 3/superstar is cause YALL got lazy.

    /thread

Ehh I don’t think that’s fair. There’s a bunch of dope artists people are still able to find despite the over saturation of music releases (regardless of genre). I mean people find dope s*** all the time despite 100,000 songs being dropped a day.

I think the problem is most people are “missing something”.

Maybe the music hits, it tells a story or creates a feeling but the innate intention to be “different” as a creative may be missing.

Or maybe they sick at marketing.

Or worse maybe their a piece of s*** from the go (yes a bunch of legends in hip hop at bare minimum are a******s let alone monsters at the worse) but that s*** be killing hype or interest for me quickly. Also could be something to say how we are able to access so much from a person in a way we couldn’t pre social media.

i think we kinda took for granted how goated Kendrick Drake and Cole are tbh

We still do bc every time one of them drop its still great but guys on here are too quick to say garbage when anything these 3 put out is always miles ahead of the new guys.

big 3 gets the most unfair treatment out of any legend group

They all have multiple diamond records and classic albums at this point but everyone still treats them like rookies who need to prove their talents

    Couldn’t have said it better

These Opium guys have some slappers here and there

Yea but they’re just derivative of carti the same way thug is to baby and gunna, except those two started to differentiate themselves artistically

Last Night by Morgan Wallen, midtempo west coast hiphop groove

    Sexy Red’s hits

    Kill Bill by SZA

Levitating is a top three hit of the decade

The pop folks like The Weeknd, Tate McRae, PinkPanthress adapting that 2000s midtempo Neptunes and Timbo club sound

    Brent’s new album

Yea Pinkpanthress got it. Music is definitely moving towards slower tempos

Talk about the music. Drake tour already beat this with less dates.

music wise Kendrick not up there at all. Its Nas in that spot.

Kendrick hasn’t dropped in quality enough to be out of his spot like many complain & it shows from the tour success from an album deemed as his weakest link

They understand the importance of visuals and building a fan relationship off of giving them a certain lifestyle in a colorful and entertaining way

    Also interesting sound selection

Yea but they’ve also played out their aesthetic and sound, due to it coming out in such a barrage fashion imo. Everybody is just trying to make their own spin of whole Lotta red inspired music. The only person that I’ve seen use it as an inspiration, and not as a foundation, and do it well has been yeat

Bingo, exactly, its like I know anyone can be classified as an artist but, when it come to being a rapper, can you succeed as a great rapper if you don't even respect the genre and its history? Some of the worst characters in music history, are rapping today, so many of todays rappers have 0 business having a platform. Thats why I say that today, its way more sport then art cause, Hip Hop feels like a sports league now.

Everyone is trying to be the hottest of the season, looking at the next man stats, trying to copy them, when the goal of being a rapper, was always to be a levels above sport, your an artist just like Van Gogh/Picasso. I think its just a lost cause now, too much ignorance has spoiled the game, and the fact that labels always wanted Hip Hop like it is now in the first place.

  • Nov 24, 2023

also, even though it’s a symbiotic relationship, producers deserve a cut of the blame pie simply because they’re almost getting “bullied” into making the same s*** to appease, established artists or up-and-coming artists. There’s also a lack of versatility a lot of times. I think about when all the other great producers had a signature sound, but saw that their sound was being taken and they went back to the drawing board and came back with something great. That’s not happening anymore man. And maybe that’s because I can look up any FL tutorial on YouTube in someone’s gonna have the A-to-Z steps on how to achieve a sound and what VST I should use on top of it.

most of the rap ratings on there are completely f***ed lol

niggas got Tha Carter III not bolded and at a 3.30, they had TA13OO as one of the greatest trap albums of all time on there

niggas out of their damned minds on there to say the very least

the best way is to follow a bunch of accounts you know have good taste/are knowledgeable and use the custom charts based on those users. and narrow down the genre/time period you want as much as possible

  • Nov 24, 2023

Simply put this s*** isn’t a simple we don’t have replacements for the big 3 because everyone mid.

    Young stars died

Other stars who could be qualified as future big three members are basically the same ages is the term big three (Tyler Travis etc.)

Hip-hop being the most dominant music genre makes it the most replicable naturally. In a commodification because it’s a pop product. I mean we’re seeing the genre stretching ways we’ve never before. Metro Boomin literally did Spider-Man. Damn near every commercial you’ll see nowadays for any fortune 500 company uses it to four clap pattern with high hats, and 808s.

You’re fighting for attention currency in a way that the previous big three didn’t have to. You HAVE to have a TikTok or other apps, even if that’s not your profile as a person.

Record labels are predatory ultimately are going to the bottom line, which shows in the Record breaking profits.

And I guess we can talk about this later but we can’t get a new big three because the current big three are proxy tools for hits of nostalgia. No different than the movie studios who are remaking franchises because they can’t come up with new IP. They noted that Gen X and generation Z are so numb to it all you can just stuff their face will content.

Ppl like @op that just ignore new talent be the worst posters

i dont get why people log on to a rap forum just to post takes like this like i get if its my dumbass co-worker or something but being so engaged with your casual relationship to the genre is just so crazy its funny

Really feel like Smino should be Coles successor
I think they could be make a lot of great music together

  • Nov 24, 2023

Also, I realize that a lot of my posts may as pessimism but I do think hip-hop can receive a resurgence. However, I think the genre may have to fall out of the number one spot to do so.

  • i don't get it either cause they're all mid now
