female rap era sad af fr
Can't really say it's a female era when most of em end up don't stay full-time rapping 5 years into their careers.
The way this forum consumes music is counterproductive to this discussion is anyways. Yall got it.
No new artists (while calling every black artist that doesnt fit your mold of traditional black music “cac music”tho)
They really do
it's like a self fulfilling prophecy

They dont even recognize or admit they part of the problem. Lmao

I can agree with this for the most part tho
Fandom wars in here got the entire mentality of the forum f***ed up.
And now people can't enjoy anyone new.
Them old niggas that we clown the only ones as of late that actually grew up on the culture and come from a time where we had to respect the craft lol
These new artists that got hyped up realized you dont need talent to go big just virality and a cool aesthetic
I think it was @edumist that noted that half of the niggas that get hyped up on here just look cool or wear leather lol
yeah the older dudes actually studied the greats and modeled themselves after them until they came into their own style essentially
nowadays it’s primarily aesthetic, vibes and flows that will carry you anywhere and everywhere, and of course people will say that it’s perfectly fine because they get turned on looking at their new favorite rapper all swagged out in a leather jacket or whatever
as long as the music is passable it don’t even matter no more lmao
female rap era sad af fr
rapping is just a gateway to promote their eventual only fans which makes way more money than music does
these discussions run a circle each time though, im just waiting for the genre to recover while making my own s***
pop, R&B and whatever else are right there for me in the meantime
big 3 gets the most unfair treatment out of any legend group
They all have multiple diamond records and classic albums at this point but everyone still treats them like rookies who need to prove their talents
They literally have more in common w Pac, Big, Hov, Nas etc than the niggas they be getting compared to nowadays
I got you brethren

I hope it does. I miss listening to new albums from people I never heard before and being hyped seeing them blow up.

We getting there. A lot of gen z are growing up and realizing that they actually want some f***ing bars. Look at yatchy lmao. Gen alpha is in love with the early 2000s so hopefully them niggas will be rapping
Real asf for Ghais Guevara ☭
That Justin Beiber flip one of the craziest beats ive heard this decade

there’s still obviously good stuff in the underground (Quelle, MIKE, Navy Blue etc.) but the mainstream is really ass
the fact that Ice Spice is relatively the newest artist we got that actually had some sort of personality and entertainment value is sorta wild in all honesty
these dudes are just largely macho with no depth to them at all, the s***s boring lol

I don't even know where to look half the time where I can dependably find something good eventually in the underground. I be just sitting through too much bad music.

They’re unique in the sense that they came up all at the same time organically (something that is missing these days) and continually pushing their talents forward as well as not succumbing to any sort of addictions, death, or controversies that have gotten a lot of their predecessors. They’re all three in the top 25 rappers of all time at minimum. “Replacing” one would be challenging but all three still operating at this level is impossible. Not even getting into most of the newer generation lacks the love and respect for the genre that all three have shown and why they will continue to stand the test of time
This and also we gotta remember the amount of major co-signs & looks these three had early on
Cole with Roc
Kenny with Dre
Drake with YM/Wayne
Sean with Good/Ye
I don’t see the big three doing that for the next gen
There’s Kendrick & Keem but we all know there’s better candidates for that co-sign
Cole has Dreamville but not a single artist to devote time to on the level of Drake & Wayne or Kendrick & Keem
Drake has beef with too much of the industry

how do you define organic though
i do believe they had real fans a real come up but they had even more label support and resources than everyone that came after them (for a debut+sophomore album)
i think we kinda took for granted how goated Kendrick Drake and Cole are tbh
We really did, s*** sad out here
honestly watching the domino effect from like JAY-Z to Lil Wayne in how he adopted his no writing approach + Wayne being largely free associative with his writing, experimenting with autotune etc. and then dudes like Uzi and Carti coming along biting off of like Thug, Wayne, Keef and Future (Thug is a direct descendant from Wayne, Future a little bit) and that culminating into these new gen niggas being all aesthetic, no writing and getting carried by prod is some real wild s*** lol (and im sure im missing some artists within this span that played a role in influencing the current zeitgeist)
like the quality of the artists seriously gradually declined the further it got removed from the progenitors for the most part
but like the Carti/Thug clones are just laughably bad or just bland, it’s such a steep drop off

RYM is a great database although the ratings/rankings + community are pretty awful tbh, you can find a lot of great s*** on there though
worst case scenario you can rely on the streaming service algorithms to shovel you new s***

s*** makes me tear up each time i hear it
between the three of them, comparing the skills of most artists now to them:
the bar was lowered and we said “let them have fun” whenever a rapper got criticized for the lack of effort, and now we’re living in the consequences of that.
record labels have adapted to serve and enforce the new low standards, and media and audiences have come to accept it as the norm, while also yearning for something new
only way out of this hole is for artists to fight the urge to fit in and try to make actual great, interesting and personal music that can connect with the fans, and move strategically to become a superstar and set a new standard for the game to follow. it’s the only way.
