He has cited his musical influences as Flying Lotus, Madlib, J.Dilla, and Knxwledge. Outkast never mentioned.

He also tweeted this back in 2017.

Either way, don’t say you are going to do something and don’t do it is my takeaway here. All that crying and s*** is what it is. I get it, but aye man.

It ain't even that deep I'm just vehemently against rappers tryna sue other rappers. That s*** just ain't hip-hop to me.

And I'm against big name major entities tryna bully small name entities with bogus trademark claims. The s*** happens more often than we think.

Facts. Just goes against the spirit of hiphop to go after a young artist like this. He probably only agreed initially out of respect for them being legends and thought hey were acting in good faith.

I don’t blame for reneging. Suing him so he has to send all the money he ever made under that name is scummy as f***

    No @op

I seen mfs defend artists of more terrible things. Something like a lawsuit over a trademark doesn’t really warp my appreciation for the artists any less.

Now if it’s serious crimes like abuse. That’s a different ball game.

Yeah on a grand scale of problematic artist behavior this is pretty low but I still think it's understandable to feel a way

Apparently he reneged after submitting two other name changes that they declined.

At that point I don't blame him for going ghost on them because they're just being difficult as hell.

Yeah, I don’t blame them in this case.

They tried the more cordial way of things.

I gotta tell ya, I did not expect you of all people to be going up for artists tryna come for an underground artist, take his money, and force him to destroy ten years worth of product and music under his name he built for himself...

Better not ever see you complain if Pharrell ever decides to come after you with a bogus trademark claim for the "Skateboard Kee" s*** you post online lmao

I can see how it looks that way but remember we have only heard one side of that alleged "discussion" and it came through lawyers in a suit. Ovrkast hasn't actually spoken about what those "discussions" were like and I think his opinion would be valuable here (because realistically the truth will be somewhere in between lol). Also could imagine public opinion shifting when we learn which names Outkast's team was rejecting for Ovrkast to use

I doubt Pharrell will go that route first, but if he does, I don’t mind changing it to just Kee afterwards, because the name is “Sk8brd Kee” part is just going to route everything towards me and my stuff.

After I gain my attention, I’m Gucci

Can you send proof of these two times? And the names he went with?

So this is the part of the agreement that was made verbally between both of their legal representation.

At some point after this "verbal agreement", I'm assuming Ovrkast declined the new name that Outkast and his legal representation came up with, and he submitted the spelling changes "Ovrcast" and "Overcxst". For some reason though, possibly because it was beyond the deadline, the new spelling changes were declined by Outkast's legal representation.

This was a post from Ovrkast himself before it was deleted likely at the request of his legal representation.

You can find info regarding the his other name submissions in this article
    rollingstone.com/music/music-news/outkast-sues-ovrkast-trademark-infringement-big-boi-andre-1235630184

The lawsuit claims the deadline for the name change was postponed to July 15, 2026, but that Wilson decided to “renege” on the negotiated agreement and suggest alternate names that had previously been rejected by the plaintiffs.

He was still trying to cooperate, but Outkast and their team weren't, so he basically ghosted them and continued going by "Ovrkast" cause, let's be frank, them niggas were being difficult af.

Lol@ me changing my opinion about a legendary hip-hop group because of a Drake producer. FOH

why is this always the take?

you realize you don’t have to be 100% in favor of or against really anything right?

  • Positivenamehere

Just change the k to a c at this point.

The "K" isn't even the problem because Outkast and their legal team themselves came up with a name change "Overkxst" that still had the "K" replace the "C". This was the verbal agreement that was reached between Outkast and Ovrkast's legal representation. Because Ovrkast didn't officially sign any agreement to that however, he submitted "Overcxst" and "Ovrcxst" as the new names. Outkast's declined both of those changes for some reason despite them removing even more confusion between the two. My guess is because it was beyond the deadline, but I feel if the name changes were different enough, what is the issue? He was clearly cooperating.

I think it's very safe to say that Outkast's side is just being difficult to cooperate with at this point. This ain't about name/spelling changes anymore, and is really just them abusing trademark rights on a small name artist. Which is why I have no idea why anybody is still caping for them on this matter.

They had the nigga agree with changing his name...he submitted two different options on a name change that were better than what they came up with...and they declined it. What is he supposed to do at that point?

Not at all and I'm tired of people desperately tryna say some dumbass s*** like

"Well why didn't he just name himself Overcast if its supposed to be for the weather to avoid the confusion?"

Yeah man. Because rappers (artists in general) are known to never stylize their name. Nope. Always spelling their name correctly.

    Yeah, that's right...

    Two Chains
    Buster Rhymes
    Ghostface Killer
    Boys to Men
    Black (6lack)
    Ludicrous
    Fabulous
    Jewels Santana
    Eclipse
    Knowledge
    The Farside
    DJ Quick
    Big Boy

All artists who spell their names correctly and have never stylized their names differently...

Common used to go by Common Sense but had to take the sense out because of a lawsuit actually

  • Sep 29

It’s whack but doesn’t really change much. I’ve become more of a “just enjoy the music for what it is” person over the last few years and it’s much more rewarding than personally getting invested in s*** that has nothing to do with me
