I did a video on artists who have gone through name changes for various reasons, mostly inspired by the outkast/ovrkast lawsuit
But as a listener, and I'm presuming there are a lot of Outkast fans on here, do you see them any differently?
On one hand you could say what they are doing is not very aligned with the spirit of hip-hop
On the other hand oyu can say they're doing what they have to do to protect their brand
To me I think the move is wack, but I'm not sure I would approach their music with any different perspectives mostly because it's so old anyway. Hard to say if the Andre and Big Boi of the 90s-2000s would make that call. If they dropped something new after this stuff I could honestly see my opinion being colored by it a bit lol
What do y'all think
Haven't given it any thought and don't plan to. Is this a media cycle on Tik Tok as well or Twitter? You don't usually do ripped from the headlines
Never looked at anything without the two peepers god gave me and I don’t see that changing

I saw a lot of twitter discussion on it. Hits close for me because I am lowkey studying for the LSAT so I'm fascinated by the legal angle of it
The video isn't really about the question I posed here though I usually try to give KTT a more interesting discussion starter than just regurgitating whatever the video is on

wow, you must be such a cool, level-headed guy to be unaware of “discussion of the week” topics like this one. can i be your friend?

I don't think he was saying he was unaware of it he was just confused why I in particular was covering it

for the second & third sentences, sure
the first sentence he wrote is clearly coming from a place of “i’m above this”
I just assume most rappers after the age of 45 get cloned by a hyper capitalistic, maga-accepting, tech/AI loving, “i havent lived near you broke niggas for 20 years” thinking, businessman.
How I cope.
I’ve seen when niggas get famous the revolution in them die

I respond to every hadji thread earnestly. You're the one being antisocial lol. It's a "discussion of the week" on the website where Kurrco is a top agenda setter

Yeah. I think that same logic is why new music from them wouldn't excite me as much. I guess it isn't a heartbreaker because it's kinda predictable
Hell no lol not like I was listening to that other nigga beats anyway. Outkast made classics! Besides I’m not too sure if it’s actually Dre and Big Boi suing or whoever owns the trademark.
I also saw they gave bro a chance to change the name and he been dragging his feet idk. But if I had to choose who to keep… I think we all know the answer

They do own the trademark iirc, although they could be checked out and just letting lawyers manage it/do their thing
i think it's one of those s***ty situations where a lawyer is afraid if they don't sue then there's some legal precedent that'll open the door for other more egregious examples
personally i think its pretty f***ing stupid
Lol@ me changing my opinion about a legendary hip-hop group because of a Drake producer. FOH

I didn't mean to you have to completely 180 on them, just maybe not see them as infallible

Yea. This is pretty much where I'm at. I like Ovrkast and I think it's kinda wack because the names really aren't THAT close. It's litigious in an unnecessary way imo especially when one of the acts is an established legendary group and the other one is tryna make it rn
But at the same time I could see them being pretty uninvolved in the actual suit and just letting the lawyers do what lawyers do. Which is wack but not as wack as them leading the charge
