This is the basis of a lot of trademark-related confusion. My mom is actually a trademark lawyer so I grew up surrounded by this s*** and that's also why I took particular interest in this. It's all on the plaintiff to prove likely confusion. What does "likely" mean though? It comes down to how stupid people are on average

It really sucks for Ovrkast that he said that s*** in the Rolling Stone interview because I think without that they would have basically no case at all

S***, if they're banking on people's stupidity then they might actually win because it's a lot of really stupid ass people in the world.

Outkast using the literacy crisis to abuse trademark rights!

There's nothing on the back of the shirt, just a simple white tee with a graphic printed on the front.

I don't think it's Big Boi/Andre 3k themselves, so I don't view them any differently. Whoever owns the rights to Outkast's name and works seems like a greedy corporation. They sued another EDM artist for using ATLiens. The way they went after Ovrkast as soon as he said something in that Rolling Stone interview about people getting their names confused was opportunistic af too

The lawsuit states that Andre 3000 and Big Boi are the founders and sole operators of the High Schoolers LLC.

Big Boi has also reposted the story about the lawsuit onto his IG. The situation has been going on since 2025. One of, or both of them, are fully aware of what's going on and are pushing for it.

Make it make sense to me man lmao

They spent two whole years s***ting on Drake (rightfully) for running to lawsuits, saying "suing ain't hip-hop!" just for them to start praising Outkast for it

They saying "Outkast has to protect their name and brand! What if Ovrkast got caught up in something bad and people said it was Outkast!"

    1. That's never going to f***in happen.
    2. If it does, that is a direct result of people not being able to read, or not reading past a headline.
    3. When Drake's legal team was saying his lawsuit was to protect his name and image from defamation y'all still called it wack, even though there was actually stronger case to be made about libel and defamation there than what Outkast is doing with their lawsuit trying to claim ownership of "Ovrkast"

It ain't even that deep I'm just vehemently against rappers tryna sue other rappers. That s*** just ain't hip-hop to me.

And I'm against big name major entities tryna bully small name entities with bogus trademark claims. The s*** happens more often than we think.

I see both sides personally. Suing is wack, that’s not hip hop in this case I can agree. But the fact the had the conversation with him and he agreed to do it and didn’t hold his end, it should be expected. The logic that the styling of his name is obviously inspired by Outkast and creates a confusion that can incorrectly draw attention to Ovrkast off the back of Outkast is paranoid, but possible enough that I can SEE someone taking issue. I still don’t think with their massive success they should be suing but I understand the logic.

Ultimately, I think he should have just stood ten toes on the name instead saying he was changing it. I also really doubt he didn’t have OutKast in mind at least to some degree making his name lol cmon now. Like I don’t think he should be sued but acting like the though never crossed his mind at all?

    No @op

I seen mfs defend artists of more terrible things. Something like a lawsuit over a trademark doesn’t really warp my appreciation for the artists any less.

Now if it’s serious crimes like abuse. That’s a different ball game.

Too similar. Can’t allow that as a big, iconic brand. Would be like some burger chain being called McVanalds

He has cited his musical influences as Flying Lotus, Madlib, J.Dilla, and Knxwledge. Outkast never mentioned.

He also tweeted this back in 2017.
