There goes my dream of becoming an artist named 4Kast

  • "Ovrkast is making money off of Outkast's name! He's cutting into their money!"

Whole time Outkast has had at least 5 songs featured throughout Lanterns...those niggas are NOT losing any f***in money

  • hadji

They do own the trademark iirc, although they could be checked out and just letting lawyers manage it/do their thing

Gotchu, either way I’ve seen niggas say some disparaging things to them over this s*** and I’m just like.. I don’t think it’s that deep. He won’t be the first producer/artists asked to change his name

Funnily enough...there's already a Forkast, and he was apart of Ovrkast's music collective

Bro the Outkast d***riders are coming up with the most braindead defense lmao

Deadass had a dude try to justify the confusion between Ovrkast and Outkast by saying s*** like "Our brains can automatically detect words even if they aren't spelled right or there are letters missing.

Okay...so if you see "ovr" how the F*** does your brain read that as "out" instead of "OVER"? Nigga tried to follow it up with "Well the v looks like the letter u!" So again...how does your brain go to "out" instead of "our" at least!?

It can be hard to watch our GOATs do lame s*** after years of borderline flawless reputation. I empathize with them but also they gotta pack it up man

  • Smacked Voodoo

Honestly, I look at the people who been defending them for the lawsuit differently.

Many of these people are just plain stupid, can't read, don't even know who Ovrkast is and just siding with Outkast because of hero worship. The amount of people I've seen "He very clearly named himself after Outkast" despite Ovrkast across his social media saying Outkast has had no inspiration on his name for the past ten years lol

He ain’t do nothing wrong with choosing that name not like he was tryna run off wit swag. I really think the entire situation is a nothing burger

This helps his case tbh. Been part of a weather themed collective he just happened to be the one to take off

Truly the most frustrating thing I've been seeing is them tryna say "Ovrkast's name is clearly an homage to Outkast!" No you dumbasses just never heard of the kid until this corny ass lawsuit lmao stop tryna throw that on him when it's been debunked multiple times throughout the 2010s and 2020s.

His name comes from the weather overcast, and he stylizes his name as "ovrkast." because Knxwledge is his biggest musical influence, and he spells/stylizes words the same way. Outkast literally has nothing to do with Ovrkast

Would love to hear that same story from Ovrkast's perspective but he's surely being advised not to speak in public

It so stupid. Idk why ppl can’t acknowledge that kast is in the wrong. They act like criticism takes away from their discography and legacy. Niggas dont even try and think they just reflexively put on the cape

  • I wanna say yes but I really dont think they themselves did it so Im not willing to go through with that sentiment

Not at all and I'm tired of people desperately tryna say some dumbass s*** like

"Well why didn't he just name himself Overcast if its supposed to be for the weather to avoid the confusion?"

Yeah man. Because rappers (artists in general) are known to never stylize their name. Nope. Always spelling their name correctly.

    Yeah, that's right...

    Two Chains
    Buster Rhymes
    Ghostface Killer
    Boys to Men
    Black (6lack)
    Ludicrous
    Fabulous
    Jewels Santana
    Eclipse
    Knowledge
    The Farside
    DJ Quick
    Big Boy

All artists who spell their names correctly and have never stylized their names differently...

They keep bringing up the video where he says a guy confused his name for Outkast when he read it and I just refuse to believe people's lack of literacy and/or dyslexia should be grounds for a trademark claim or C&Ds...shit is absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think it's Big Boi/Andre 3k themselves, so I don't view them any differently. Whoever owns the rights to Outkast's name and works seems like a greedy corporation. They sued another EDM artist for using ATLiens. The way they went after Ovrkast as soon as he said something in that Rolling Stone interview about people getting their names confused was opportunistic af too

This is the basis of a lot of trademark-related confusion. My mom is actually a trademark lawyer so I grew up surrounded by this s*** and that's also why I took particular interest in this. It's all on the plaintiff to prove likely confusion. What does "likely" mean though? It comes down to how stupid people are on average

It really sucks for Ovrkast that he said that s*** in the Rolling Stone interview because I think without that they would have basically no case at all

  • Nah

All my rap heroes had said and done some dumb s*** with no remorse

That’s just how it is with these rich MFs unfortunately
