He thinks he’s too good to do something like the Nas albums
Yeah I know he won’t do exactly that but he could maybe come back and do his version and drop like 3 albums in 6 years or something
“The youth doesn’t care for him” when in the f*** did you speak to all if the youth to get this info op?
Close this thread up. Y’all see his discography and don’t you dare play like he has something to prove. Reasonable Doubt through Vol. 3 was a crazy yearly run from 1996 through 1999.
Y’all also see the way his priorities shifted - from vocal artist to (music) mogul.
Yeah but still someone like 50 Cent is still prevalent in the culture despite not releasing an album and sticking to be a TV mogul
Jay is in his 50s so I understand why he doesn’t pop out as much but that can also hurt him in the long run
Let me open up my active case file on Shawn carter real quick
So you have nothing and are just making up allegations?
He's still regarded top 3 by anyone above 35 (i guess)
But the youth really doesnt care for him and his discog. They still care about Wayne, Kanye and even Em is more loved than Jay w anyone below 25
Will he even dare to drop an album in this climate?
33+
The answer changes depending how far from NY the person you're asking is
Jay-Z is legendary but doesn't have as much appeal outside his region as other rappers do. Even in 2010 he wasn't super popular in the South
He was as big as it gets in western Canada
ubiquitous as long as I've been paying attention to music
drake, kendrick, cole and kanye are all his sons he'll be fine
Kendrick is a huge stretch.
Kendrick is more so of Wayne, Pac, and Outkast's lineage than Hov's. Eminem's too arguably.
He’s probably aged the best out of anyone from the 90s
Reasonable Doubt amazing but still a ways behind 36 Chambers, Aquemini, Ready To Die

36 chambers always sounded so muddy in the mix, i dunno if theres a remastered vinyl that I just havent heard yet

RD is a classic to me but, outside of that, saying Jay's music aged better than other 90's rappers is a huge stretch lol.
Biggie alone aged better than Jay's music in the 90's with only 2 albums.
That said, Jay's music in the 21st century did a better job at showcasing his artistry overall. He focused less on bloating his albums and actually making cohesive projects akin to RD.

Lo fidelity like the Asian movie translations they sampled was part of the charm

True. Id say alot of Outkast still hasn't aged and if anything sounds like the future still.

I agree. Outkast aged very well due to not chasing trends in production and style in the 90's(albeit their debut somewhat did).
Tribe Called Quest's music aged very well too. There's literally a revival of Zoomers getting into Tribe's music from the 90's.

To my point of him having more appeal closer his region than other rappers - we might as well consider all of Canada as "North" and being more receptive to NYC rap than people in the US South
We’re definitely in a revisionist history era with Hov
Niggas act like Hov is weak now but Hov was treated like God on earth at one point
Tell these suburbanites smfh
Kendrick is a huge stretch.

Kendrick always quotes Jay and been emulating him since his first tape, he def one of Hov sons
He was just a hot late 90s/early 2000s NY rapper who cuffed Beyoncé and made smart business moves. Does he have stans outside of the northeast?
???

Yeah probably. We kinda got that New York climate in Vancouver too except more rain.

no one ever talks about Eminem’s influence on Kendrick and it’s so obvious lol
he’s old as s*** lol he already has
