Why do you say this? What evidence do you have?
Let me open up my active case file on Shawn carter real quick
We’re definitely in a revisionist history era with Hov
Niggas act like Hov is weak now but Hov was treated like God on earth at one point
He was just a hot late 90s/early 2000s NY rapper who cuffed Beyoncé and made smart business moves. Does he have stans outside of the northeast?
Hov was early on supporting and collaborating wit the South if you think he went platinum just being relevant in the NE you are buggin. We talkin bout when you had to guy buy albums btw.
Jay-Z is 54 years old and debuted literally 28 years ago.
He has nothing left to prove. Rappers' legacies aren't solely dependent on them being hot with the current youth.
Billboard literally just ranked Jay as the number 1 rapper last year.
And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't have Jay as my GOAT.
People forget we are witnessing hip hop age in real time. Jay doesn’t have to be relevant wit the youth anymore lol neither do any artist that came out during his era.
I’m starting to think the revisionist history arc is just an unavoidable part of being a GOAT.
I can’t think of a single one no one tries to discredit
biggie maybe but yeah kendrick and hov been hit with it the hardest recently

That’s true. Thinking of someone hating on Big is nasty work tbh
Will? His debut was in 96 wtf are we talking about lol
My first thought

The answer changes depending how far from NY the person you're asking is
Jay-Z is legendary but doesn't have as much appeal outside his region as other rappers do. Even in 2010 he wasn't super popular in the South
He still is generally considered to be the greatest rapper of all time by the general population
There are people who disagree of course but most rappers and rap media personalities consider him the goat
I feel like he’s been more relevant recently than he’s been in a minute. J. Cole diss was a Takeover rendition
“It’s crazy how one verse can f*** up the game”
And
“I was gonna kill a couple rappers but they did it to themselves”
Was quoted hundreds of times in the beef thread and both are Jay Z lines
Yes and no, I think the legacy of his hits might be starting to fade for the general public. Many of them being so trendy and feature heavy isn’t helping but it also could be due to the time they spent off streaming services
Some people really seeing him more as Beyoncé’s husband
His rap classics are cemented for heads though and his run is too legendary. As long as people care about hip hop I think they will care about HOV
If he could try to do a next leg of his career similar to Nas then he could change everything so we’ll have to see

He thinks he’s too good to do something like the Nas albums
