a lot of people forgot it’s a marathon not a sprint and started taking preemptive victory laps in the Obama era not thinking into the near/distant future of conservative pushback. Enter the Trump era.
The evolution of social media and the increased fear mongering. The irony of conservatives grasping on to “fake news” when they are demographic of falling for it. Also hotep homophobic bullshit like homosexuality being a means of emasculating the black man and destroying the black family unit.
Progress is made by people actually in the field putting in the work. The ones really taking the blows to get s*** done. No progressive movement has had success without the people willing to sacrifice potentially themselves for it. That being said, that’s just not what’s happening these days. It’s all about sharing a post on Facebook or Twitter these days and screaming “57 mutuals with this homophobe” it’s mostly a virtue signaling game for interactions these days.
First point very valid. Feel like if you push people to hard on something that has to change they’re instinctively want to go against it, whether it actually has to change fast or not.

It's really not a mystery why progess stalled, you can listen to the critics themselves and they're pretty vocal about which aspects of lgbtq they don't agree with
But it's convenient for activists to pretend the other side is all in on a conspiracy to spread misinfo and keep the "real reasons" secret and it's nothing but hysteria on both sides. Right wingers overreating about sports and bathrooms and trans activists overreating about laws and "genocide" so many talk about buzzwords like "Republicans want genital inspections" when the laws they write have nothing to do with that

It’s all hyperbole and reactionary sensationalism on both extreme ends of the argument. The right are worse though; as you saw with them focusing on the fact one of the more recent shooters was trans- what was their excuse for the 100s of other mass shootings by non trans people? They’d rather make it a trans issue instead of a f***ing stupid outdated gun law issue.
