I had to call myself out on this around the time To Pimp A Butterfly dropped. CONTROVERSIAL TAKE, I don't personally think Kendrick says that many significant things about police brutality, but he's often credited as such. He's also said things on the matter that I think most people would completely disagree with. But I actually think he, more than any rapper outside of maybe Cudi, says a lot more nuanced and powerful things about how to deal with depression and inner turmoil. But I think his fans make him out to be the God of every black culture related subject when he's a lot more personal than that.

All those reasons do go against somebody being pretentious. What are you talking about, lol? You sit here and equate not constantly creating music to being pretentious.

Being a perfectionist, not being in a writing headspace, focusing energy on other ventures, the length of their creative process, or other various factors are all valid reason as to why somebody would not constantly release music.
