birthday dinner at atoboy
it was impressively meh
i was so underwhelmed by this i feel disappointment

chawanmushi w nori, crisped quinoa, uni
idk something abt the quantity of uni on this w everything else and the micro wasabi on top of the chawanmushi didnt go for me

beef tartare,
crudo with jellyfish salad.
both were just aight, very unmemorable
the jellyfish salad was the only idk somewhat memorable part of this and it was just a jellyfish salad w a different kind of vinegar than what ud get at a canto restaurant

scallop and zucchini flower and a koji sauce on left,
octopus with chorizo and potatos on right
again rly underwhelming, didnt feel the flavors rly hit that well for me octo needed more sauce or something, anything

pork rib on left, pickled banana peppers, mu radish kimchi,
twice fried chicken w peanut sauce and a gochujang based sauce

pork rib was not memorable in any sort of way at all,
pickles were good, kimchi was average, fried chicken was cool but not phenomenal its ust fried chicken but imagine it encased in like fish and chips type batter instead of reg batter
the rice was actually fire tho highlight of the whole meal they said they make the rice then mix in soy sauce sesame oil sushi vinegar and sesame seeds 11/10 rice

dessert i liked, peach yogurt granita over burrata and walnuts
wld absolutely eat again but i wldnt want to sit thru the rest of the meal just for this and the rice

found green almonds, tho these were a little too ripe to b really green

very sour but kinda fun, wasnt a huge fan tho wont seek them out again, not crazy distinctive otherwise

also new nails ✨

made chicken katsu and mac salad

ordered the rigatoni carbone w extra parm from parm it was really really really mid

malfouf - cabbage rolls filled w rice and meat
Pita was fresh out the oven made to order

pistachio manakish / pistachio flatbread

mansaf - lamb in yogurt sauce over rice and pita (pita layer on the v bottom)
bowl of yogurt in the back to be poured oer the rice
really good, wld hit again for sure
pistachio manakish was wayy tastier than i imagined tbh the pistachios were so fragrant and well toasted it was so good
took the leftover mansaf home and ate it w hot sauce
took the leftover pistachio manakish home and drizzled honey on it

mini donuts from cloudy donuts co-- vegan donut shop w a store in baltimore too
powdered, chai sugar, blueberry, raspberry rosé, ginger peach x2

sweet potato cinnamon roll

hated the raspberry rosé donut it tasted like old lady soap, blueberry was boring, ginger peach was good, chai sugar was good but cld use a bigger chai punch it was just hint of chai, powdered donut was just a powdered donut
overall their donuts r rly good
like if u wld never guess its vegan and even compared to nonvegan donuts theyre defs good quality donuts
but the cinnamon roll was sooooo good
maybe im just not a donut person but the cinnamon roll was the one. so good like candied yams meets cinnamon roll... so good
wld go just for that
will say they put their flavors online but the ones we saw in store were 75% those 25% diff and they had no mention of the cinnamon roll anywhere

gyoza from raku..... gyoza nothing special (lots of filling tho) but their udon is incredible

baklava from amazon - baclavaci güllüoğlu
not the same as karaköy güllüoğlu but made fresh in instanbul and shipped out
dont like any of them tbh besides the plain pistachio baklava
which is super buttery and good aaaaa

putting the blockbuster cookout in blockbuster cookout

bought 40 hot dogs for a big hot dog cookout/birthday party

hot dogs from foster sundry--super good a little spicy

made potato salad for it the night ahead
bf was grill master for the whole like 3 hrs
dont hav more pics tho
we had dogs, condiments for the dogs, potato salad, a bunch of chips and dips, homemade lemonade, chocolate cream pie, apple hand pies, alison roman 'cole slaw', watermelon, lots of grilled corn

this gave me food poisoning

flavorwise idk its fine the beef does definitely give taco bell but im not a big taco bell beef fan

classic punjabi food from dhaba
sarson ka saag + makki ki roti (makki ka roti??) which is basically just a giant sope w nothing on top ig--its also a cornmeal flatbread
apparently its often eaten together bc theyre seasonal at the same time in punjab
tbh not a huge saag person so the saag didnt hit for me
also got samosa chaat which hit tho
they own a couple of other indian restos in ny -- malai marke, chola, etc that are all pretty solid

wldnt rec fried oyster--it was really really salty
but the fried shrimp was really good

sandwich itself was sooo oily and soggy and salty it wasnt v pleasant for me wldnt get again, tho i did order it delivered i will note

Jinya was FIREEEE. Not pictured was lemonade which was godly.

Spicy tonkatsu ramen with chashu pork (butter, spicy sauce, bean sprouts, green onion, seasoned egg, bamboo shoots) 10/10

Takoyaki on top of the fluffiest whipped eggs. Very rich. 8/10 because the eggs couldve used some salt.

Fried chicken 10/10

Pork gyoza 9/10

Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura 9/10
