as an aside though i really wish this nigga got into that gritty barred up s*** a lot more, he can rap his f***ing ass off, that’s why meet the grahams is getting so much burn from me
I love the album but I’d say nah. The outright hatred sure but a lot of people just didn’t vibe with it which I get. It’s a heavy album and if you just wanted something fun and easy to listen to like Damn and GKMC then you won’t find it.
If you like look at the tracker, it was so much re-done and repurposing on the album like...the beth gibbons hook was done to an entirely different beat.
I'ma always love Count Me Out (probably the best song of the decade) and his decisiong to turn Crown from what would've been the most trauma dumping he's ever done on wax (there's a snippet of a leak where he's talking about his uncle dying. It legit feels like a venting session) to what he decides to do instead was a great artistic choice (which is funny because Crown as we know it was recorded during the DAMN sessions)
I WILL say, Friends shoulda been on here somewhere. I am not the biggest fan of Silent hill.
To be fair, you have to have a high emotional intelligents to understand Mr Morale
I mean you do
Ironically, Mr. Morale was the type of album we needed to hear at the time.
It's way too much cognitive dissonance with rap and the times we are currently in like...shit is not good out here. Of course the album is gonna reflect that.
Maybe that's why it struck me in a special place.
Think Tyler summed up perfectly why it was so divisive.

you got that snippet of Crown on hand?
yeaaah like i understand he didn’t want to go completely deep into the dark, substance filled bag and felt the need to make some songs that were poppy but they just weren’t very well done to an extent. even Count Me Out for example (which seems to be lots of people’s favorite on the album) i feel like the hook is a little cheesy and the voice he chose to rap on that song is a little strange given the lush production, i preferred the little demo leak that was just straight soul a lot more
!https://youtu.be/wp6iezAmnek?si=pmo1O8m7lTy4Gye-Rich Spirit’s pads/keys put me to sleep, it’s too somber and lacks energy (which i assume sort of fits the nature of the album) but eh, like you said it’s just not something i really want to return to. kinda wish he leaned more towards a Crown/Worldwide Steppers bag for the entire project but him wanting it to be accessible watered it down
Mam count me out is painful for me. The first half is perfection besides how weird his vocal delivery was on it, with him just rapping on the Choir vocals.
And then the drums and low ends come in for the 2nd half
ruin it for me
Not bots. Just losers who run with trends. It's people who never even listened to it and just went along with calling it bad because it was the "fun" thing to do.
Glad as time went on people realized it was always good, and the people who feel strongly against it are losers with issues they need to work on.

this track is special its so f***ing raw and honestly unheard of flow+delivery is here
that flat tone with the abrupt cut off into the verse proper
that "first time i f***ed a yt b****..."
aaaoooooooo
bro it smokes me everytime but its so f***ing good

”Ask Whitney about my lust addiction
Text messagin' b****es got my thumbs hurt
Set precedent for a new sacreligion
Writer's block for two years, nothin' moved me
Asked God to speak through me, that's what you hear now
The voice of yours truly”
like cmon man
there’s no one who can convince me that , that album isn’t middling based on his ceiling as a musician
The irony is by all intents and purposes DAMN is 100000x his most depressing album yet it’s his most successful.
Funny how that works

crazy how raw that song is but teeters the line of comedy, its just a brilliant track, the WHAT THE F*** SAMPLE, its insane and i wish more of the album was this man
mr morale is still very very lack luster regardless
there are great songs on there tho but it’s in no way a great album

I forgot about this. Kinda wish we got this version

the delivery of "i got stomped out in front of my momma
my daddy commisarry made it to commas
all my grandmas dead so aint nobody praying for me im on your head"
is always insane to me, its like sm tragedy rapped with some of the most outward confidence ive heard in his music (not that hes an insecure rapper by any means) is crazy to me he really is the goat im sorry
bruh this nigga said i got stomped out in front of my momma and continued to eviscerate everyone in his generation, hes the goat im sorry
The common perception was never thats its ASS. No, it was MID
Good album tho but obviously expectations were higher
in the moment damn getting the pulitizer was a consolation for missing out on giving it to him for gkmc and tpab, but in retrospect it might be his most subtle and tragic album, theres really a lot of nuance, substance, and vivid imagery in the storytelling there thats worthy of the prize
