if you don't got a bunch of niggas on socials calling your album trash or saying you fell off with like 50k plus likes each you didn't get a bad reaction
plus i highly doubt anyone in here had niggas at whatever spot they be at calling the album trash or something like that after it came out
No people wanted either more radio friendly music or they wanted rappity raps and neither of those audiences really got what they wanted
comparing it to his other closers kills it for me it feels so snti climactic despite it being a good, strong message
I actually think the message on that song is the weakest part about it.
And makes some or the themes of the album fall flat for me. I feel like he didn't take much accountability on the album for as why people look to him as a "savior" and how he play into the role. He briefly goes over it in crown, but I definitely think he should dive more into that
I’d probably rank it like
TPAB
GKMC = DAMN.
Morale
UU
S80
I love S80 and its highs are some of the best, but the average-bad songs outweigh in comparison to his other albums
Not going to say No Make-Up is amazing or anything but the hate is overblown imo. Spiteful chant is actually awful tho and Rigamortus gets old eventually
But you also have tracks like ADHD, Poe Mans Dreams, Hiiipower
Second verse on Kush and Corinthians one of his best ever imo, basically the concept of DAMN summarised in a song
One thing I will say though is that Kendrick's hooks and choruses were awful on a lot of S80
Ive got the whole unreleased kendrick project that got leaked before the beef happened with that song on there, so its released for me lmao
Prayer, what else was on there? I have the early leaks when We Cry Together initially got leaked and Rich Spirit with that Rick and Morty ass beat
I think once you understand the theme of the album, you'll understand that it's simply not made for everyone to listen to. Not everyone is in a place where they want to reflect on themselves, their past, their wrongdoings and their traumas. Which is okay, we're all human

S80’s lows (low for kendrick standards) are definitely only hitting in a nostalgic way. When you consider GKMC released a year later, its aged so much better
But yeah the highs are ridiculously high
Remember when we all predicted Mr Morale was gonna be on some Yeezus type s*** and we ended up with a trauma dump album

You gotta have this ‘untitled’ app to hear it but some redditor made a little mini project that went viral and people thought it was official, of some of the DAMN- Morale era leaks and its a solid listen tbh
100% and thats exactly why i can't call it a classic
the mainstream sounding ones are so confusing and detract sm from the record for me
i pop the pain away song sounds like a cut off KOD by cole ass chorus
its like half of each disc is brilliant but then the other half is just head scratching material that makes me wonder where his head was at.
united in grief is like his best track imo the subject matter the flow the beat its all top 5 kendrick
but then u get hit with n95 immediately after and im just so dissapointed.
the mix makes it interesting but the beat itself and that chorus just makes me sick like wtf was bro thinkjn
rich spirit is just ok, its just kinda boring to me and doesn't really add to the themes hes working on
father time is the best commercial friendly song tbh it feels like a lr/grad level kanye song to me
yeaaah like i understand he didn’t want to go completely deep into the dark, substance filled bag and felt the need to make some songs that were poppy but they just weren’t very well done to an extent. even Count Me Out for example (which seems to be lots of people’s favorite on the album) i feel like the hook is a little cheesy and the voice he chose to rap on that song is a little strange given the lush production, i preferred the little demo leak that was just straight soul a lot more

Rich Spirit’s pads/keys put me to sleep, it’s too somber and lacks energy (which i assume sort of fits the nature of the album) but eh, like you said it’s just not something i really want to return to. kinda wish he leaned more towards a Crown/Worldwide Steppers bag for the entire project but him wanting it to be accessible watered it down
Remember when we all predicted Mr Morale was gonna be on some Yeezus type s*** and we ended up with a trauma dump album
Still remember that first impressions thread and niggas were saying it's like the schizophrenic version of 4:44
you’re f***ing off your rocker if you think Mirror sucks
it blows bruh im sorry
also mirror sucks too
if this album was just the best tracks i'd say its TPAB level. but the half that foesnt resonate with me really brings the whole record down for me. damn is tied with this one for me, some of his greatest career highs, with questionable and corny lead singles
very puzzling decision to throw that at the end of the album after Mother I Sober, i felt like it was the perfect closer

i lowkey said that so ppl wouldnt get so butthurt

!!!
Got into so many debates on here after saying this, glad it's not just me

the tour did numbers so it worked out but given this is the last one signed to interscope/tde/aftermath i feel like the labels stepped in and pushed for some sonic compromise
but then again idk its just weird to me like he does singles so good idk why they fell so flat to me here
i think we established very recently that your definition of a classic is looser than kim k
No people wanted either more radio friendly music or they wanted rappity raps and neither of those audiences really got what they wanted
Perfect explanation
Aside from the bots, it was 100% on Metacritic for like 2 weeks. But kids ain’t looking for grown man rap which is why it’s shunned by most.

To be fair, you have to have a high emotional intelligents to understand Mr Morale
