Definitely the most consistent year in rap I've seen
JT, Beyonce, Dilla, Akon, Rihanna, Nelly Furtado, Ciara, Ne-Yo, Pharrell, Clipse
Those albums alone have stood the test of time and are still enjoyed by listeners around the world. And that's not even half the list
Genuinely need to know what y'all smoking when y'all big up 2016 this much. TLOP and Views not measuring up to these albums
SoundCloud startet break thru to people online.
A new and defining genre of music, that came out of nowhere and took over mainstream culture.
I had never experienced anything like that before, last it had happened was in 1991 when grunge broke into the mainstream.
Thoughts?
I think they can both go neck and neck.
2006 and 2016 were both glorious years and big turning points for their decade.
2006 started the shift from hip-hop dominance to electropop.
2016 started the shift from EDM-pop to trap and hip-hop
that Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Timberlake wave was craaazy futuristic even for today's standards. s*** still sounds cool af.
2006 was this tiny little interesting intermediate year between rap domination and Gaga-esque Electropop. It gave room for artists such as Gwen, Fergie, Nelly, Justin to shine and prepare the pop world for what's to come.

You're focusing on one album I pointed out, there's 49 others in OP
That album also has Promise and Like a Boy, so it could be worse
Not saying 2016 was a bad or even average year. But it gets overhyped, we've had better years over the past 2 decades but 2016 is always the one year that people love reminiscing over

Blackstar, bon iver, coloring book, a tribe called quest, the last year George Michael, Bowie and Prince were with us. The list goes on and on. I can understand why folks think 2016 was special. It's kinda the last year of the 'old world'
just realized op put kingdom come and a girl like me in there but not the sweet escape by gwen, lowkey bannable offense

like ngl that top row is hard to beat
Yeah, 2016 clears
2006 was such a good year though! It's good to give 2006 its flowers
We all already know 2016 was an unprecedented 12 months
2011 was the best year in recent memory. MBDTF(dropped late 10'), WTT, Take Care, Cole World, Trilogy by Weekend etc... s*** was insane

Now that was a great year from last decade
kingdom come is so overhated smh
Lotta great years. 2013 was great, 2004 was amazing, 06 was good but it was a transitional year rather than a classic year i feel
Better. 2006 was 2015 and 2016 was 2007
2015 had generational rap classics 06 was great for pop
