If the investment in the worldwide subscription model pays off, I honestly believe what he's saying could be true.

Avengers Endgame budget was approx. $672–756 million. There's no reason to think a blockbuster budget from WB can't exceed a billion dollars. A DC movie with a billion dollar budget in the future can absolutely exist and probably will.

my issue isn't really with that

Its with this dumbass saying because a marvel movie or capeshit can potentially get a billion dollar budget, that means its great for filmmakers and they should stop complaining about the streaming model. Like I wanna slap tf out this dude for thinking making greenscreen corporate capeshit with zero artistry or integrity is the ultimate dream of studio filmmakers.

In terms of being realistic about the situation we're in, I think WB made the right choice overall but I have to say, it's pretty damn stupid to not even notify any of the directors

Don't get the outrage. We are literally in a pandemic. These studios have rosters that they've put up money for that they stand to lose. Warner's just the first too. By Mid 2021 it'll become clearer and Warner will be forced to make changes or other studios would

All this honestly proves the overreaction about all of this originally

It’s 1 year ploy to gain subs while movies still won’t be making much next year and then afterwards we are back to how we were

Nothings going away and the pushback to the idea of this expanding is sharp. Theaters being forced to innovate like I had hoped doesnt even seem to be happening too. This isn’t a sustainable method

I still see a lot of studios potentially getting worried around April/May-Summer when people still won’t be headed to theaters and they need people to see their films

Cus some of these absolutely can’t afford another delay

Black Widow gonna show the way

The sad thing is modern "movie people" think like him

There hasn't been a movie more epic than the LOTR films

I don't think there ever will be with where things are headed

You dont think a subscription service that has 200 mill subscribers like Disney is projected to have in 2024 paying 16 a month wouldn't provide epic movies

They will provide "epic" movies like Endgame or San Andreas

garbage CG movies that just follow an extremely surface level narrative and dont give a single s*** about detail or world building

But the streaming model will make art more corporate driven than ever and we will see little to no artistry in what they are making

It is already telling that Amazon's billion dollar LOTR series hired the absolute hack of a director that did the new Jurassic World movie: One of the worst blockbusters of all time.

I feel you bro. You care more bout the art and writing. Obviously these guys just trying to make the most profit as possible. But as a fan I'm happy I get all these content while at home for cheap.

Endgame’s main selling point is using ten years of worldbuilding tho

Although I agree with some of what you said, we've already started to see a decent amount of films coming to Netflix where they clearly didn't care about how commercial it would be. Mank, I'm thinking of ending things, The Irishman and others have all been focused more on the art than the marketability.

Seems like Netflix goes to directors and says, it doesn't matter how this would do in the box office since it's going straight to streaming, make whatever you want. And we're getting some interesting stuff. Disney's just fixated on making s***ty CGI blockbusters cause that's what their audience wants and it works for them

I think streaming can be good in that good directors can make interesting s*** when they don't have to care about box office numbers. But it does depend on the willingness of the streaming providers. Netflix has been good about it so far
