Wrote a whole diatribe that can simply be summed up as "I'm mad Marvel succeeded and DC flopped, so I'm gonna take it out on the entire superhero genre in general"

Like if you hate cape flicks then don't p**** foot around it, tryna give some "DCEU started as auterist vision" bullshit. Keep that same energy for both Disney and Warner Bros for shoveling that s*** down everyone's throat throughout the last decade. End of the day they're both responsible for what cinema has become.

Realistically, this is always how the s*** has been. There's always gonna be massive studios that shovel out basic crowd pleaser s*** for a ton of revenue over the "Heavily story driven, unique, and original" films. It just gets made worse when there are trends. As we saw with superhero movies. Most people are burnt out on the s*** and it won't be long until the new trendy genre takes off.

Like we literally went through this same kinda s*** with zombie and vampire movies. You'd think people would realize what's going on by now

yep you hit the nail on the head.
this has been happening since forever,the crowd pleasers are always put in the first place over the "FILME" flicks.
Dont only blame mcu ,blame every single studio trying to make as much money as possible on the new fad.

Mcu actually did a great job of introducing a whole ass universe over a 10 yr span.
Dc tried to go the money printing route with justice league and they failed.

In the future there is going to be a new fad and we are going to hear the same convo again.

Kevin Feige destroyed cinema with his despicable excuse for a film franchise. Tailor making every Marvel film for fan boy man children who have no problem watching the same films that hit the same beats and are so calculated to fulfill your big summer blockbuster needs they feel closer to ads on instagram than a real movie.

Anyone who legitimately thinks Marvel studio deserves any of the love & respect it gets deserves to be thrown in a gulag and burned alive.

sounds like you're making excuses for why Feige chooses to make the safest blandest films possible. You know there was a time where filmmakers could make huge blockbusters that appealed to audiences but weren't calculated by studio execs who barely knew anything about film.

Feige is everything wrong with mainstream cinema. MCU started industrial cinema wave - films that are made quick and easy with a million producer notes for their directors to follow to guarantee a crowd pleasing experience by braindead zombies who are easy manipulated. Rise of Skywalker was soulless nostalgia bait and it was heavily influenced by the MC which worked in Disney's favor because average movie goers loved it.

Say what you want about the DCU but the entire universe started with an auteur director's vision. It was compromised with BvS but even that movie feels like a frankenstein mix of Snyder's vision and Warner Bros desperate need for a superhero universe. It's not as one sided as a Marvel film.

The whole idea that a superhero has to be "fun" and appeal to man children is the reason why lames like Bill Maher think comic books are an abomination. Looking at the MCU nobody would even know that the comic books sometimes are violent and gritty. It's never restricted to a lighthearted tone and constant need for lame quip. God forbid a cape flick resembles the real world.

Fam you can’t complain about the MCU but then give a little props to BVS. How we suppose to take your rant serious when BVS is one of the worse superhero films of all time and probably worse than every single MCU film

The Avengers aren't real but Disney forcing theaters to give them 70% of the their revenue or they wont show their movies is absolutely real and it prevents theaters from supporting independent creators, which in turn causes studios to re think their strategy of what they choose to fund.

So yes, the MCU has literally shifted the industry away from making good films.

The theaters need Disney because they can't rely on an actual great film anymore because you might get one of those once every 2-3 years at best. Without Disney, they are missing out on multiple billion a year. Theaters do deserve blame for getting greedy at the start, but that is because nobody ever thought Feige's plan would have the effect it has now.

But the argument is theaters are giving 70% to Disney only leaving 30% to give to other studios right? That to me sounds like theaters are more at blame for being willing to pay that much.

Also I’m confused on how some people are complaining that theaters are dying and no one is going anymore. But then complain that too many people are going to the theaters to watch MCU/Disney s***

no its a 70-30 split between Disney and the theaters in terms of their movie's revenue and I believe in turn they also have to meet a big number of auditoriums that must be playing their movies in order for Disney to agree to screen them at theaters.

Theaters are dying because of this model because its made Disney the standard and anyone that makes a movie that is anything but is now considered not worth watching because casuals taste has just become more and more homogenous.

If that’s what y’all are saying then explain to me what you guys are basing that off of? Literally 2019 (just last year) was one the best years for movies in recent history, and also the year the MCU had their biggest release with Endgame. So how is film quality going down if just last year we had more great films than in any other year in recent times. 2019 was arguably the best year for films in the 10s
