anything that i find remotely challenging or difficult to understand is pretentious

oh brother y’all still do this in good year of our lord 2024

Yeezus isn't difficult to understand, the album is literally Ye sucking himself off, having a comedown and then sucking himself off again, to somewhat abrasive music mind you.

Tyler is an old head (33 years old) and old heads in every generation of rap has had the same opinion as tyler on new rappers and the state of rap music. KTT is old head status so I see why you and alot of others here agree strongly with his opinion.

The fact is rap has always been for the youth. It's not for people like Tyler and most people on this site anymore. The kids are gonna get inspired and identify with the rap that's coming out nowdays and the cycle will repeat once they get older. To deny there's any musicianship because it doesn't allign with your beliefs/views on the art form just shows you are dusty.

Weren’t artists like Drake, Kendrick, and asap championed by those that came before them when they were up and coming?

What’s some of his best written songs?

Most of the stuff on ganger

Once again I’m not saying he’s Wayne or some s*** but his bars are funny and witty and a little bit more to bite into than most Detroit artists

    Gotcha

who are some artists who have so openly let the world know theyre only in this for money?

some names come to mind who havent said it explicitly, just curious of the type of rapper he was referencing

    Mostly Detroit and post-WLR rappers

that “it’s not for you” s*** is equivalent to saying “well that’s just my opinion”

just a phrase people toss out to kill any discussion or avoid having to justify the s*** they’re saying

It’s just such a stupid argument because you can easily look at numbers and see what your saying doesn’t even make any sense

One issue here is that todays rappers are mostly only championing those who are signed to their labels

And they’re usually personal connections or just ass

Yeezus is cool, but in hindsight, it's kinda pretentious. It's the ultimate Kanye fan album tbh

    I don’t think it’s pretentious

nigga 33 is not old you niggas are sick with that ageism mess s*** is sad. tyler likes a lot of younger dudes anyway that’s not at all what he’s talking about. just keep it a buck and admit yall hate tyler atp

It's not ageism. Majority of rap listeners and rappers are young people. For a genre with a demographic like that, 33 is an old head. It's like in soccer where players who are in their 30s are considered old.

Tyler's opinion is an old head opinion that's been said in every generation of rap. If I played CMIYGL for some dude who thinks 90s rap is the truest form of rap they'd call it garbage and say tyler not a real artist/musician/rapper.

Just because this generations way of making rap doesn't allign with your belief/views on how people should approach the genre doesn't mean there's no real musicianship.

“It's not for people like Tyler”

So can you tell me why he and people older then him are the only ones still doing numbers?

Why can’t any of these kids hold onto a career for more then a couple years?

it’s even dumber when you realize that kids these days don’t even give a f*** about rap and are literally idolizing streamers

Ok fair but we can still just albums relatively

Like chappell roans new album isnt going to impact like a pre streaming classic but theres clearly a difference between an album like that and albums that get carried by a single track i.e. vultures 1

    That's true for sure
