43 yr old rapper tired of trap beats, color me surprised

  • We need more The Runners type beats. Or like idk that era had so many different sounds. Just stop using 808 drums and just use some drums with some actual timbre to them instead of this empty trap s***. The late 2000’s had such a unique mix of sounds. We need more outside thinkers. Get creative take risks. Everyone just follows someone’s lead

  • Or use 808 drums but stop being so predictable

Trap keeps evolving. Certain strains of it show their age atp, but the genre as a whole hasn't slowed down at all. MFs just not rapping over Toomp beats anymore

  • Just to put into perspective:

Drake was 22 when he made so far gone
Kendrick was 24 when he made section 80
    Trav was 23 on DBR
Partynextdoor was f***in 19 when he made PND.

What are these new gen kids doing to move the culture? Valid question in op, what’s after trap? We’re still in the trap era unless someone comes with something worthy.

Agreed. Seems like trap influence is in every sub category of hip hop. If we’re at the end, I don’t see what comes after it. Nobody has given us any sort of hope for what to expect. Someone correct me.

There would probably need to be a major shift in music production technology to precipitate the uprising of any new sounds. Hip hop itself was born from the evolution of vinyl records and sound system technology. Early 80s electro rap that contains the DNA for trap/all 808-driven hip hop production was born due to the introduction of drum machines and synthesizers. Trap beats as we specifically know them today arose from the uprising of DAWs and computerized synths in the late 90s, and there hasn't been any kind of major shift in the way music is produced since then.

That's why trap is kind of "end game" for now, its existence coincides with a seismic shift in music production standards itself, of which we haven't seen the likes of since

    What's a trap beat

The answer to this is subtly the problem lol

Not so much "trap beats" in a 2010-2012 sense but everything using a certain type of trap esque drums and cadence

Lil baby rapping on Bush/Obama era Toomp beats ironically what he needs as opposed to more triplet flow bait beats lol

    Facts

    I think of this too

Niggas Ai hate withstanding lol there needs to be something new as ubiquitous as the 808 drum machines or MPC/drum machines to truly bring a change in drum sounds

I think trap drums are evergreen in hip hop the same way acoustic drums are with rock. Yeah the sound selection and patterns are going to evolve but the dna won't change.

  • zenirama

There’s a very obvious difference and progression between osamason type beats and the average beat you’d hear in 2018

I love how you broke it down. You’re spot on.
With the progression of AI and the climate of the business side of music, we’re at a standstill.
