Rory and Mal kept saying accounting isn't an excel spreadsheet or some s*** like that. then a bunch of people on twitter who have only driven Uber or worked jobs where they weren't allowed to sit down started running with this narrative that excel isn't accounting. when you export something from Quickbooks, it's exported as a csv or xls or xlsx file. those are all excel files. yes, typically the numbers are copied into a pdf but that pdf comes from excel first. and if their issue is that excel numbers can just be punched in and edited, then that same issue holds for a pdf because the numbers in a pdf are just copied over from excel
here are actual cpa's and people who have had finance jobs explaining the truth

yes it's me, Ian
and it's not a narrative. I think the stooges made some good points. I think Joe also made some good points. they said "the accounting" isn't sent in the body of an email with just 5 line items. that's true. but then they (especially Mal) said accounting isn't an excel spreadsheet. and that's where they are wrong. and that's also where a bunch of burger-flipping, uber-driving, door-dashing, the marathon continues ass niggas decided to say "yeah, accounting isn't done in excel" as if they knew the first thing about excel or accounting
The point of contention wasn’t that it was an Excel spreadsheet. It’s that everything documented for the entire pod apparently fit on half a sheet of paper.

you can post a tweet that Trump really won the election and it will get 20k likes, so idk if likes is the best measure of truth
no one is tryna protect Joe. he f***ed up. everyone should know their role. no way someone should think they're an equity partner if they're not. and no way someone should fail to understand how you can have a bigger venue and still get the same amount of money (even tho there are a lot of ways that can happen, different cities have different prices, big venues cost more to book, etc.)
and Rory / Mal had good points. if someone is always getting a certain way when accounting is brought up, then I will be suspicious. they also look like idiots for talking down on everyone else's business for years when theirs was f***ed up.
i'm not defending Joe, I'm just saying that accounting is done in excel. and any accounting you see in a pdf came from excel
the excel s*** is way to overblown. their complaint was because they got some measly ass s*** in the spreadsheet for what was for more than a years worth of expense. niggas twisted their words to fit Joe's narrative

I think that's a valid complaint. 5 lines is wild. even a summary financial statement isn't 5 lines. however I listened to the whole thing and saw a lot of the tweets that followed and you had a lot of people straight up saying that excel isn't accounting. and that is like saying "microsoft word isn't writing"

That’s just people misconstruing their words without any context. Rory said what was given fit on half a sheet a paper, and then said “that isn’t accounting”. He wasn’t making a broad statement about Excel itself, but you’ve been running with it for the past 2-3 days.

I'm not about to go through the entire hour and ten video but Mal definitely said "excel isn't accounting" several times. that's the reason there are so many "zero like" tweets saying the guys sounded dumb every time they said that
also I am running with it because it just shows that they don't really know business like they say they do. I expect that from Mal and niggas who have never worked office jobs before, but Rory allegedly worked an office job before. and it makes me think it's more likely that they just didn't know their contracts that well
same thing as Mal saying "how can the money be the same with a bigger venue or with more tickets"? the venue size isn't the sole factor in determining net profits. you can book a venue that's too big and not sell enough tickets. tickets in Boston won't be the same price as tickets in NY. a 1,500 capacity venue might cost $20k to book, and a 4,000 capacity venue might cost $30k to book and maybe you don't make up the difference in additional ticket sales. Rory should know this stuff from Hennypalooza
the fastest way to a reconcile with Joe is probably them launching a pod on their own, because then they'll see that running a business is expensive, and content is expensive. everyone at every point in the supply chain knows their worth. camera guys, sound editors, video editors. that's lowkey why twitch is great $ because it's just live streaming and you don't have to pay all those additional people

Silas must be Savon

30 pages of excel. Come on yall
30 pages of excel. Come on yall
Crazy! More pages about excel than what Rory asked for

How can you say you not gonna sit through an hour to get the correct facts what they said, but you’ve been going back and forth with people for close to 4 days on this?
How can you say you not gonna sit through an hour to get the correct facts what they said, but you’ve been going back and forth with people for close to 4 days on this?
because writing is faster than watching a video and everyone knows they said excel isn't accounting, which is why there's been 30 pages of back and forth on it
my final thoughts on it: Rory and Mal had a valid concern that accounting isn't something that comes in 5 lines in the body of an email. and an excel spreadsheet with minimal detail (very few line items) isn't really "accounting." But "excel isn't accounting" or "an excel spreadsheet isn't accounting" is something that will make anyone with actual business or finance experience look at you like you are a high school senior or a college freshman, basically like you are a dummy
How can you say you not gonna sit through an hour to get the correct facts what they said, but you’ve been going back and forth with people for close to 4 days on this?
"an excel spreadsheet that people punch numbers into is not accounting" - Rory at 20:23

that is literally accounting. except maybe if you use Quickbooks, which still spits out an excel sheet ultimately
Mal says the same thing elsewhere I didn't feel like going through the rest of the video
and then each time they say some s*** like that, they say "I don't care how stupid you think I am" or "my high school diploma ass" or whatever, but they literally do sound like stupid, never worked a real job a day in their life ass niggas (and gingers) when they say that. same as saying "defamate my character." they just come off very unpolished and not smart when they say things like that, and it's easy to understand why they wouldn't understand their contracts
ultimately what they wanted was actual detailed books. receipts for expenses, contracts, bank statements, etc. and as profit partners maybe they are entitled to that, especially if they don't trust their friend or if they don't trust the numbers. although Joe says the 400k "mistake" wasn't a mistake, it was just like a pro-rated payment or something like that idk other people have commented on that
also if you know anything about the movie business, the few times an actor is able to get a % based pay from the movie, they often get f***ed because studios do all sorts of creative accounting. it's called Hollywood Accounting (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting) and it's usually legal even if it's f***ed up. studios will do all sorts of s*** to reduce the profits a movie reports. they'll add in marketing expenses, distribution, production overhead etc.
"Despite grossing $153 million against a $26 million budget, the 2019 romantic-comedy Yesterday reportedly lost $87.8 million, according to Universal Pictures accounting sheets"
so I see why Rory and Mal want to see the books. Joe could be unintentionally or intentionally f***ing them over. it'll be hard for them to win any legal battle though
