Breh believe it or not Rory contributed to the success of the JBP it is today which is a reasonable request if he wanted some equity! I also don’t get your infatuation with calling Rory a bum.

This gonna sound like a d*** riding post, but he manages artists, did palooza, was on the Pod, a full time fiancé, dog father and was juggling a side chick. I can’t Imagine creating a YT page filled with JBP clips was top of his mind nor would’ve it pushed the needle in negotiations lol. Not everyone needs to be their own ‘boss’ some people are content with being behind the scenes and doing their own thing.

if you don’t want to be a boss don’t ask for boss demands.

People will move on. Your acting like people don't continue watching shows when there favourite character dies or leaves a show.

It was a chess move allowing rory and mal back to do those recent two pods. It showed everyone their lack if interest and lacklusre performance. How you get off the bench and not perform after you see two dudes about to take your spot.

Rory and Mal thought they had power and they tried to do a boss moving thinking that they were kings with leverage but they were in fact pawns on the chessboard.

To your first point people rarely do infact most shows fail after losing core cast members

the fact when you just google "head of creator equity" as a position and only joe budden shows up is mad sus ngl

alot of these companies give ppl fancy titles to make them feel important lol

whats important is that hes paid, has influence, and this opens doors for his next moves.

"But that's not all. Budden has also been hired as Patreon's Head of Creator Equity, a paid advisory role in which he will help the platform create programs and policies that benefit creators."

    https://www.complex.com/music/joe-budden-announces-podcast-business-deal-with-patreon

actually don't know if he has equity at Patreon so imma recant that

    thats what I mean.

Like, I've helped back some pods on patreon before, the way this position makes it sound like, Joe would be actively helping out...pods/creators in general on the site would I be correct? Or is it only stuff for his network?

    I guess I'm just confused.

    Communication is important

no but based on what i heard as a listener to the pod for years and how things transpired

heres 3 things that I take away (feel free to disagree)

    1. Rory and Mal did not handle s*** the right way and aren't business savy despite giving business/contract advice on the pod

    2. There was miscommunication about their roles between them and Joe. Joe is a boss and they are employees

    3. Rory and Mal didnt contribute enough to warrant ownership (2 other ppl came and the audience started liking them better)

Joe is messy and emotional but we already knew this. Those two have to be held accountable too.

The first two points are pretty clear by now, the only thing I disagree with is the third point

Seeing how Joe is by this point, I understand why someone would said rory and mal "shouldn't EXPECT ownership" especially from a person like Joe (which this situation and the past year or so has given us hindsight), but I think in a positive situation they would have been given some type of ownership.

Joe was and is still the driving force in the pod but Rory and Mal were definitely a big part of the reason why I enjoyed listening to the podcast the three (and four sometimes including parks) of them and their chemistry are a great draw for a podcast and I think even though joe may replicate that entertainment them being there for that long did warrant some type of ownership

I just wish they had it concrete in their heads that joe was not going to give them that properly, on the pod. That there was a wall there.

shows and podcasts are different though.

Although, 6 years of a successful pod might make the loss that much more harder, it's still different from a syndicated show.

What makes you think Joe would’ve given equity to Rory early on though ? Imagine if Rory did ask, Joe would’ve probably found a reason to Marisa him way before the Spotify deal.

What Mal, Rory, Parks and Joe contributed to the pod is what lead up to the Spotify deal . It’s a team effort, I believe everyone deserves equity, even Savon, Ericsson, parks etc. but Joe isn’t some benevolent innovative ‘creator/boss’ he thinks he is. He’s emulating scumbag and immoral business tactics from dudes like diddy.

This nigga literally added nothing to the show

The nothingness he added was his most important addition like he was a meme because of that

Even if it was a smaller role compared to Rory and obviously Joe,

I enjoyed Mal being on the podcast, he added value to it for me personally, as a listener. So I mean I can't tell u what to enjoy or whatever but my favorite iteration of the pod was Joe/Rory/Mal/Parks

of course they contributed a lot to the growth but they are still employees. Im sure you do a decent work at your job contributing to the companies overall success. Do you deserve ownership for doing your job well? You agreed to be an employee maybe you can renegotiate your contract but often you cannot.

This nigga silas taking business advice from a nigga who made a career outta burning bridges with people...and was smoking PCP

again hes running a multi millionaire business

he is where he is for a reason.

Learn from ppl's successes and failures.

Where he messed up is the fact he didn't communicate that this was his pod, hes the boss, and that Rory and Mal were workers.

Doing business with friends usually ends up being a mistake.

  • May 13, 2021

that position was made out of joe's favorite words lol.

he might've single handedly ruined what 'creator' means, cause a LOT of niggas since he's turned that word to a catch phrase have started calling themselves creators knowing damn well they aint...

    ...cut from that cloth.
