They would have negotiated and could have negotiated for more at various points had they had enough leverage to do so. It's hard for Mal and Rory because their clout / leverage is tied to the joe budden podcast. They never did anything in the media sphere to capitalize on being on that platform.

It's like if a rapper signs to a label w/no clout or leverage. Their deal is going to suck and they won't be a priority. But, if the rapper gets s*** popping in their city / state / region, and gets a real buzz, he can come to label table with far more leverage.
