kinks deserve more love on here

i barely hear them get mentioned by newer artists. apart from logic the other day which surprised me lol

i feel like prince has a way better case for being better than the beatles. he really was coming up with most of that s*** on his own

My point was you can compare the Kinks and Beatles or MJ and Prince but comparing a British rock band from the 60s and 70s (that didn't dance) to an r&b performer (that didnt play instruments) is reetarded

But yeah Kinks are my favorite band. What'd that geek Logic say about them?

i saw a clip going round twitter where he said they were 'in rotation' with Kanye, the Rolling Stones and Mos Def.

yeah. i do prefer Jackson 5's versions of the Corporation songs to the Beatles' early cover songs tho

The Corporation is a fire name for a Motown songwriting group too

I've never heard that name used

    Dang real

Stones are about as good as The Beatles too but it takes longer to assimilate them then most kkt posters have had time for yet

It was Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren and i think a couple others.

i'm pretty sure he was used and created especially to write songs for the Jackson 5.

yeah they're a bit messier and not as immediate in their post-Brian Jones music. But i feel like most KTT posters must surely be able to appreciate tracks like Gimme Shelter or miss you. they're really easy to get into as songs.

have you ever heard that interview where kanye starts singing sympathy for the devil to explain what his favourite stones song is cos he feels like Mick when he's in paris. and then the interviewers like the lyrics are so good in that song. and then kanye asks what they are, then when they're read to him he says they're not impressive

to me their catalogue with their live history might make them the best rock band of the two. surely for that era your live show has to count for something in these things?

i don't think they wrote on any of the most iconic 60s jackson 5 singles like abc, want you back, i'll be there etc.

Then The Who need to get brought up cause they would roast literal any band in a live setting even if Tommy and s*** is overrated as hell

Famously even did so to The Stones on their own live special which they then shelved for decades out of embarrassment

    For my answer it’s MJ

it's having both tho. i don't think the Who catalogue is as good as the Stones songs.

The Who's Who's Next is amazing and i feel like that's better than some of the overly ambitious 'rock opera' s*** everyone goes on about. their early stuff is great too.

Have you seen Rock n roll circus? cos i don't feel like they did outdo the stones tbh. There's a lot of star power in that film, john lennon doing yer blues, yoko ono does this jam with a violinist which is crazy and then i'm pretty sure Jethro Tull show up too

yeah I've had Rock & Roll Circus dvd forever, priceless. Tbh the Yer Blues performance my favourite but you cannot match Moon/Entwistle.

I feel like everyone underrates the Stones and Who's brief psych period of '66-'68. It took me ages to properly compile all the gems but holy much bigger appreciation once you saw how hard they were all trying to keep up with the Kinks and Beatles. Nobody wants to admit Ray was the most influential Brit from '65 to '66 but he definitely was, mainly amongst the industry.

Just some of the most immediate ones that are probably easiest to get into first:
    Here Comes the Sun
    Strawberry Fields Forever
    Something
    Blackbird
    Eleanor Rigby
    Day in the Life
    Yesterday
    In My Life
Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed
    Come Together
    While My Guitar Gently Weeps

That misses out some of my favourites like Julia, Dear Prudence, Helter Skelter, Nowhere Man, Tomorrow Never Knows, I Want You, Happiness Is a Warm Gun etc. tho

    That interview was bonkers

Also nobody ever really accused the Beatles of being spellbinding musicians (although Paul ranks very high for bass imo). It was about the relentless string of classic songs they conjured themselves.

ray's influence lasted a long time too.

I feel like a classic 90s album like Pulp's Different Class can be traced back to him. parts of blur, billy bragg, arctic monkeys etc. all feel like they're a part of his tradition too even tho i don't like some of their music lol

I feel like it's pretty modern of them but it's something they shared with Bob Dylan too.

But if you look at the best modern artists a lot of them aren't the best singers, rappers, producers or musicians but just people with the most good ideas
