I mean they are white people, but i think it's way too complicated to just call it 'white people music'. really they're doing a take on black music as white british guys just like most 60s uk artists.

i feel like by calling it white music it reinforces the sad perception this generation have that rock music isn't black music and takes away from the originators of that whole genre.

also, their tracks are obviously written and performed by white people but given most legendary black vocalists from that era recorded their songs too, their actual 'songbook' is just as 'white' and british as songs MJ sung like Rock With You, Thriller and She's Out of My Life. Some of those MJ songs are just seen as black by chance. they could have easily been given to a white artist first, and did start with white writers. pretty sure she's out of my life was for Frank Sinatra lol.

Obviously it's all black music in terms of the style, but i feel like it's way too easy to just dismiss it as one race or the other, and actually ends up minimising black contributions as much as the beatles.

i barely hear them get mentioned by newer artists. apart from logic the other day which surprised me lol

i feel like prince has a way better case for being better than the beatles. he really was coming up with most of that s*** on his own

beatles have revolver, sgt peppers, abbey road, the white album, rubber soul, magical mystery tour, etc. so they win easily.
several classics.

michael has thriller, off the wall and bad. quincy jones is to thank for most of michael’s greatest work.

tbf mj has some gems on other albums and jackson 5 too

of course, but nowhere near the level of the Beatles’ best albums

yeah. i do prefer Jackson 5's versions of the Corporation songs to the Beatles' early cover songs tho

The Corporation is a fire name for a Motown songwriting group too
