  • worst season pretty clearly

not like awful or anything but just kinda there. i still really enjoyed the first 3 episodes, episode 6 and episode 8 so not too bad

the faks annoyed me a lot this season but they were funny in small doses, the problem is they never were

i heard that season 3 is supposed to be entirely buildup for season 4 so maybe this will age better on rewatch?

all at once release model is cancer but i think if this season dropped weekly a lot of people would be s***ting on it even harder

  • Finished season 3. Enjoyed this. Episode 1 was cinema. Syd had the most interesting storyline and I can't wait to see how it unfolds, cliffhanger and all. Love Nat but that labor episode is one of those episodes in the show that I know I'll never revisit even though I respect what it was tryna do. The Fak's attempts at humor were drawn out and painfully unfunny, but overall, I enjoyed this season.

  • Need Carm to stop being a bonehead because I'm all for Syd leaving if he keeps undermining her. Y'all supposed to be working together, you can't switch up the menu without even communicating with your partner, what type of s\*\*\* is that?

he’s the heart of the show despite barely ever being in it

They’ve done so much posthumous character development by showing everyone’s life without him, how they’ve coped, how he’s talked about etc. so when he gets to show up it’s like

Mikey is the MVP every time he shows up.

is season 3 really bad or - people talkin s*** as always? - i dont have time to watch it now

Really bad is insane. It's not the frenetic madhouse that was S1, but that's also why I like it. There's some moments of real emotional beauty here.

Take it like this: if you're really invested in these characters, you'll find something to savor in the character-to-character moments, but if you're more into the storyline beats where s*** is constantly going south and you wanna see how they get out of that hole, then you might find yourself itching for the plot to move forward already.

Is s3 the worst season of the show? Yes
    Is s3 still amazing? Yes

At this point the show is so good it's pretty much competing with itself

its controversial because some may argue its meandering. it's a slow burn character study, less interested in the heat of the moment, burst at the seams kitchen drama, and more interested in taking a step back, widening and narrowing the scene shot composition wise, and really humanizing the characters in subtle and little ways. there's no big reveal like the first season. there's no looming deadline like the 2nd season. there's a lot of flashbacks.

it's very much a season thats tied to the next, more so than s1 was tied to 2. they very much can stand on their own, because despite the cliff hangers, there's an obvious goal that the characters are trying to achieve, and they end with the characters achieving said goals.

there's less of that here and more interest in getting to know the characters, their connection to their work, their place, and their relationships. characters that didnt get one off's or much screen time last season, get more shine here.

there's a reoccuring motif that prestige, legacy, and high class comes with cutting off the fluff. we see them go full michelin status with a strict reservation only, creative 7-9 tasting course, 11 madison park style server experience. this reflects in the storytelling their trying to achieve, by less dialogue, holding onto shots longer, a willingness to stew in silence. its all incredibly done and the to be continued in the end heavily implies this is the kind of season that needs to meander a bit to set up the stakes for the next season.

Are all the chefs in the last episode real chefs? The old grey hair guy talking to Carmy at the start and all the people around the table with Sydney later on seem really naturalistic and like the stories they’re telling are interviews with chefs rather than actors but idk

yeah this season was ass. first episode, tina episode, and finale were the standouts but even then the dialogue and characters are getting on my nerves atp. the faks are beyond annoying and the dialogue is still as corny as ever, but without any of the highlights

  • Jun 30, 2024

the character development is also non-existent lmao, the carm-richie beef and carm-claire relationship were done terribly

S***s been pretentious since S1E1, if you ain't getting it go watch house of the dragon you simpleton mf

This seemed like a set up season. Not a lot happened and there was really no payoff. Lot of overextended forced emotional moments too. S4 has gotta move the plot forward like crazy

This Nat labor episode is definitely falling in the same category as "Fishes" from S2. Skipping on rewatch.

I fast forward tf that s*** lmao. Kept stopping to see if I missed anything
