This Nat labor episode is definitely falling in the same category as "Fishes" from S2. Skipping on rewatch.
dont care let’s get back
to the restaurant
S*** was so boring
smh when i see s*** like this and sydney hate im convinced ppl dont actually like the show
Can’t call this a prestige tv anymore
Took a huge step back in ss3
it got even better across the board, stuck to its own creative vision.
if anything it has way more prestige this season than any other
every great show of the last decade has had a controversial season that raises the stakes of the show, commits to the creators vision unapologetically, and divides fans. i think this show did just that with this season for better or for worse. it wasn't as experimental as s2 mr robot s3 atlanta, but they def were going for something completely different.
the first episode has been clowned on but i think its actually one of the most creatively edited and written episodes of tv ive seen in a long time. some cuts fall flat, but i think its incredibly difficult to make a final edit that feels cohesive and jumps between past and present like that, not necessarily telling a traditional linear narrative, but instead a character study with minimal dialogue. it goes for so many shots they never take in any other episode, and creates a portrait of carmy, his relationship with his craft and creativr partner sydney, and his trauma. i think its actually the best one off character study ive seen, and we're incredibly privileged to see a network have full faith in a writing team to take a chance like this, knowing it will be a divisive episode and season.

Aye man, I'm not obligated to love every episode, but if I enjoy one, I'll gladly say it
is season 3 really bad or - people talkin s*** as always? - i dont have time to watch it now
its controversial because some may argue its meandering. it's a slow burn character study, less interested in the heat of the moment, burst at the seams kitchen drama, and more interested in taking a step back, widening and narrowing the scene shot composition wise, and really humanizing the characters in subtle and little ways. there's no big reveal like the first season. there's no looming deadline like the 2nd season. there's a lot of flashbacks.
it's very much a season thats tied to the next, more so than s1 was tied to 2. they very much can stand on their own, because despite the cliff hangers, there's an obvious goal that the characters are trying to achieve, and they end with the characters achieving said goals.
there's less of that here and more interest in getting to know the characters, their connection to their work, their place, and their relationships. characters that didnt get one off's or much screen time last season, get more shine here.
there's a reoccuring motif that prestige, legacy, and high class comes with cutting off the fluff. we see them go full michelin status with a strict reservation only, creative 7-9 tasting course, 11 madison park style server experience. this reflects in the storytelling their trying to achieve, by less dialogue, holding onto shots longer, a willingness to stew in silence. its all incredibly done and the to be continued in the end heavily implies this is the kind of season that needs to meander a bit to set up the stakes for the next season.

i know i just feel like that episode was an all time bottleneck, they really gave a lot of context in 30 minutes one room and 2 characters. maybe im a writers room nerd but i wish i could be there for the table read, it just is a brilliant little episode to me
episode 1 of season 3 clears most shows’ entire seasons tbh
someone gets it
Wow episode 1 was incredible
Episode 1 was vibes only
amazing
First ep pretty bold. Weird unique swing for the opening ep of what’ll be the shows biggest season so far. Cool stuff
1st episode starting out so good. The music and opening scene have me already feeling like this is going to be a banger season
Episode 1
This episode is very poetic. Such a change of pace. Very slow, very gloomy, maybe a few words spoken.
episode 1 had me in an absolute trance man. beautiful as hell
Ep 1
How the hell do they do this s*** within a year timeframe
feel like the writing and directing and actors booked it’d take 3-4 years between seasons
Episode 1 is hitting hard
First episode felt like an album intro in the best way. Setting up a classic
Pilot fire
first episode was a work of art, wow
Episode one genius Lowkey I didn’t even notice it’s basically a montage
