And yes I realize I’m writing this with an Althusser avy

Cockshott was also Maoist + Althusserian

Just finished the introduction which provides some background. Found it very interesting and gave a lot to think about even tho it’s clear he’s not fully on board with Marxism. Excited to start the interviews to try and get a better understanding of the contradictions at the time

It’s definitely f*** the PCF and my avy for upholding their revisionism

i always get a lot of enjoyment out of genuine first person accounts even if the person themselves has an inconsistent ideology.

as an aside it is insane just how recent many advances of marxist thought not written about directly by marx have been. like i read about a struggle between the two most prominent US asian pacific liberation orgs in the 70s because one of them thought that it was "marxist" to have women be confined to domestic duties so that the men could "fight the revolution"

internet has really been helpful despite whatever side effects have resulted.

Yeah "the new jews" is a way to put it, but in a way that wasn't anything new, the first people to be put in concentration camps in Nazi Germany were communists. You know that famous poem goes "first they came for the communists" actually.

The Dutch govt also collaborated with Nazi Germany in their prosecution of communists by sending Dutch communists to Germany who would then be put in those concentration camps.

The post WW2 suppression makes more sense when you realize that the founders of Nederlandsche Unie (basically NSB-lite) would have prominent positions in the govt like our intelligence agency.

And yeah I wasn't taught about this either, it would kind of hurt the whole idea of the cold war being a struggle for democracy when the supposedly democratic countries took such anti-democratic actions in their fight against communism.

When learning about all this it makes more sense why socialism hasn't become as prominent here in the Netherlands

Definitely know that poem, so simple but really powerful.

It's especially weird that they got some high government positions.

You would think that after the war they would make 'schoon schip' to cut all the ties with everyone who collaborated with the nazis.

Also I've always felt that the Dutch/Western news had an anti East-Europe propaganda, primarily against Russia. Ofc with the latest actions from Putin that is understandable, but way before that I felt like we were floated with anti Russia propaganda and there wasn't any room for nuance. Not that I share the believes of East-Europe but I absolutely hate propaganda. Just let people decide for themselves and don't spread that s***. It will only divide people.

So considering this I definitely believe there were some huge mistakes made after WW2.

you HAVE to read Blackshirts & Reds by Michael Parenti

it goes completely in depth on everything you mentioned here, and how all of it gets conflated, misinterpreted and intentionally obfuscated.

really really great book probably one of the best books you can get your hands on in the 21st century.

She just died? Wow. I didn’t know that. You are telling me now for the first time. She led an amazing life. What else can you say. Whether you agreed or not, she was an amazing woman who led an amazing life. I am actually sad to hear that. I am sad to hear that.

    Cares too much about superstructure

Denies a lot of Marx's earlier works had any relevance
