Ultimately a revisionist and his structuralism could be overly rigid at times. Suppose that kinda comes with the turf of being a structuralist tho lol.

But overall I think he’s very useful in a lot of ways and I’ve taken a lot from him. I think he’s a great philosopher even if his politics/praxis aren’t always the greatest

His work on the State is great for the most part and I also have a high degree of sympathy for his “anti-humanism” and the way he correctly pointed out that “Marxist humanism” and Marx’s early works are typically trotted out by socdems and liberals playing communist while ignoring his more illiberal mature works

That being said I don’t agree with Althusser that the early works should basically just be tossed out lol I do think there is still a lot of value to them, they just get abused by rightists
