Yeah but that's what's been said over the past few pages to, you have to separate the individual from the system in the west when placing blame because of its deep corruption, it's not that there's an intrinsic wrong to meat eating unique to westerners, it's that the system has made it impossible to ethically eat meat here, but that problem isn't as simple to deal with as to just avoid eating it
only takes a small percentage of people to turn the tides, shoutout the 3.5% "rule"
and again as an abolishinist i don't believe any meat is ethical, but that doesn't mean i look down on everyone who eats it.

yeah but would you rather overturn meat eating or the system which perpetuates unethical operations on a mass scale to begin with basically, because in this case they are mutually exclusive, which is what other people in the thread was trying to say. like sure, the rise of veganism/vegetarianism as a popular diet has indeed changed corporate behavior, hence the rise of lab meat, beyond products, etc. - however in spite of this, it has not actually done anything to mend unethical farming/processing; so obviously what we're (largely) saying here is that influencing social trends isn't going to stop the perpetuation of oppression, thus the energy spent on vegan advocacy isn't all for nothing or anything, but when it comes to organizing/etc. you're probably better apt to focus on wholly anti-institutional and economic protest rather than just protest of consumer habits

I'm certainly not (and i don't think others in the thread are either); i've been on/off vegetarian myself in the past (dietary issues). We're just saying where energy is theoretically best spent from the various POVs in the thread

giving the overlap between the oppression of animals and humans, as show by the many sources i dropped itt, I think I'm putting my focus in a pretty good area tho

i don't think anyone is denying that in terms of ethics, they're just saying in their view there's ways they think are more meaningful to approach it

I hope they living those methods. Everyone got their own values and gotta walk they own walk.
u telling me ag gag laws ain't political. that methane production on par with the entire natural gas industry isn't political. that the fact that there is a disproportionate number of hog facilities located near communities of color and low income communities isn't political man stfu

Our politics is a collective struggle to change the system. That's when something is political in the revolutionary sense of the word that is required here for these problems.
You could've lcame in here and been like "are you guys vegan? Here's what it means to me and my experience" etc and achieved the same effect. We all agree on the ecological impact of agriculture and some probably agree on the moralism of meat eating.

nothing is separate from everything, the two are inextricably linked. all i can control with certainty are my actions so I put my willpower there. idk what you want from me dawg.
Every day people say Cuba is authoritarian because there’s one party without a single inkling of how the government works
