Nah I can’t agree with this. Kendrick was writing songs for Jay Rock, SZA and baby keem. He also put Anna wise on two classic albums

    Bullshit ass Keem?

Drake and Kendrick have both given dozens of rappers opportunities and platforms. It’s up to them what they do with it.

i do find it a bit unsatisfying that neither of them found an actual successor that they can pass the baton on to.

closest is kendrick having keem, but i dont think keem has it in him to be a superstar.

Feel the same way. I'm gonna be honest: if Keem shows out on his next album, I'll shut tf up

The hunger comes from the upcoming rapper, not the people who have already made it
Why would you need to go out and find somebody? If they really want it, they'd find a way to get to you

everyone can't be a lil wayne or a gucci, and being cosigned by a popular rapper isn't guaranteed to get you to "successor mode" (e.g. gucci's label, ovo sweatshop, etc)

plus the notion of "waiting for a handout" just seemed very unpopular back in the late 90s to 00s. The internet killed Lakey The Kid's Nas diss partially cause he said "why you aint save me the way Em came and saved 50" (every clique/label in the world wanted 50 at that time btw, ppl gotta stop giving Em credit for 50.)

like these is grown ass men lol.

also the talent pool between then and now is drastically different.

Lil Wayne had Nicki Minaj and Drake.

And now Kendrick, Drake, and Cole have.....uh...yeah, Keem? Jid? Party? (what's the other ovo rappers, I'm actually quite lost. And not saying these aren't good artists, but you comparing them to their "big homies" and it's like damn.)

you can only put so many people on before you realize the people have to find a way to stay on.

    tl;dr:

I always liked the whole this guy was big rappers hype man and then did his own thing pipeline. I would honestly rather a rapper just give smaller acts opportunities like that than explicitly “put them on”

    !!

Tyler putting Paris Texas on his chromakopia tour was actually a really good look especially after the criticism for his ian diss interview saying "why doesn't he try to put on other talented black artists since he hate white ones so much"

    Ah like an actual successor.

It depends how much money they wanna make.

When you put the torch in someone else's hands its all up from there.

Jayz chose one of the best potential artists you can think of to be a successor and look at how far Kanye has fallen.

I think Kendrick and drake should just do a couple more albums and let the next generation figure it out.

Jay-Z didn’t want Kanye he got lucky

Jay-Z actual protege is J. Cole and then Cole was better off when the label stepped out

kendrick might be the worst thing to happen to Baby Keem.

Keem actually had an upwards trajectory before he just became known as "kendrick's cousin"

idk what's going on at PGLang but they haven't helped keem outside of 1 song. been f***ing 4 years since his album.

That’s how I got put on to some of my favorite bands tbh.

Like Zach Hill used to drum for every band on earth so once Death Grips dropped it was like yeah I’m listening to this Zach Hill is on it.
