yeah to me Uncut Gems is a vastly superior movie in every way to Good Time
its a far better execution of the Safdies' style. The score, cinematogaphy, acting is all better. But apart from that, the stressful crime aspects are better realized through its dialogue and editing. Howard is not sugar coated for being an obsessive gambling sociopath and thats what makes it so interesting to see someone who is so unlikeable as the main character because this is how someone would act if they were Howard. It makes Connie look tame in comparison.
I didnt even like good time
On second viewing, this wasn’t as good but still decent. I remember being shook when I first watched this in theaters

Why do people say this film is tense? I didn’t find it stressful at all
Yeah I was underwhelmed by it tbh. And the ending was so predictable
good movie still

You nailed it

more frantic then stressful
cant be too stressful when you dont care what happens to the main character

i had this same thought until i realized it wasn't tense for me because i was used to that kind of chaos/energy in my own life. f***ed up thing to realize lmao
this film is still the greatest film of all time and everyone i show it to wants to watch it over and over again

Jesus... why do you think that? Just curious

i explained a couple pages back
This is a contender for greatest film of all time. Seriously.
You have drama, thriller and comedy expertly woven into a 2.5 hour f***ing chaotic nightmare (also, does anyone acknowledge how this film is f***ing 2:15:00 long and doesn't let up/lull ONCE? Scorsese/Tarantino level filmmaking right there) with a performance from Adam Sandler that is not only "good for him", but also a performance that literally no other actor could have nailed like he did.
Ratner is such a pathetic, stupid piece of s*** and its chilling how well Sandler nailed that. As an addict, watching the s*** he got himself into reminded me of the chaos I went through in my addiction. That's where the comedy comes in for me, watching this dude just f*** his life up to unfathomable degrees for completely unnecessary reasons.
Even Kevin Garnett didn't phone it in, like what the f*** kinda directors are the Safdies bruh they conducted this s*** beautifully
I agree with ALL of this except the goat statement. I personally much preferred Good Time. It made me way more anxious lol

the thing that makes Uncut Gems > Good Time is that Good Time kinda stagnates (very briefly but nonetheless stagnates) when they stay in that house after leaving the hospital. had to power thru that part ngl it paid off though. gems just doesn't f***ing stop and each scene is better than the one before it
i read that Daniel Day Lewis gave props to the Sandman for this. that's better than an Oscar is it not
this is probably the first time i took in a film as an art piece. every single aspect of this movie comes together beautifully and its probably just stars aligning but still remarkable and safdies are one in a million

I’ll give you that. And the ending felt abrupt tbf, even considering how long and stressful the whole movie felt. Still, I’m partial to it over Gems. I also think Pattinson had a better performance. Both he and Sandler nailed the role of the vapid, egotistical, sociopathic jerk, but I feel like Pattinson’s was more convincing. Plus, the stakes of GT felt much higher. Also that twist in the middle when he found out he stole a random dude from the hospital was top tier
Either way I gotta check out more s*** from the Safdie bros. Put me on if you can

bro Sandler's acting is f***ing LOADED and tough to wrap my head around. like in a good way. he's recognizable as adam sandler and doesn't look radically different yet i only see Howard Ratner and not the Sandman cause of how deep he settled into that role. it was made for him
