Misogyny sells cause people like misogyny. That’s just the reality. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t. It’s an issue with humanity, not an issue with music.

Like is Snoop Dogg going to lose his show with Martha Stewart for all his misogynistic 90's bars or just the rappers who chose the wrong side of the Meg trial?
I think Snoop and Martha had a thing
I’ll be waiting on Rolling Stones “let’s leave violence and d*** dealing music in 20xx” article tho.
Don’t be a media publications run by crackers and think you can have a voice on what should and shouldn’t be included in hip hop while you continuously rank Pusha T albums highly and do articles praising King Von.
An article like this isn’t problematic, it’s just the fact that it’s disingenuous and conveniently timed to act like they actually give a f*** when they don’t.
Only reason they even do a story like this is because of the Meg s***. Futures brand has been misogyny for a minute and RollingStone literally praised his album THIS year. What changed their minds? But now they doing a 180? Why he lumped in with Tory?
Talk that s*** King
Rolling Stone as a magazine could disappear tomorrow and nobody would give a single f***
not sure why they think their opinion matters as an organization on a culture that doesn’t respect them.
Yet here you are fuming at their bait article

Thanks for a very vulnerable and thoughtful reply.
I've been the person at the end of their rope that needed hopeless emo s*** to get me through so I'm the last person to tell someone not to listen to that art or to not create that art. Right at the beginning of this article the author praises hip hop for the wide variety of scenarios it can accommodate and it should stay that way.
What I WANT is for these artists making their fortunes off depression and d*** use to offer a little bit of light, critique or nuance to their experiences, but the problem with that is that it's ultimately an unrealistic expectation. The person behind the song may never have found those things to write about them. We're not all at the same point in life. Kids take shelter in that hopelessness because it's what they feel.
Ultimately this is a discussion that's been going on since Columbine and long before...parents need to parent and can't deflect blame onto rappers. But I do hope the survivors from this generation of emo rap find their peace and express that artistically.
I like you a lot. Outside your drake hate
Where are the think pieces about SZA’s kill bill? The biggest song on spotify currently and she talking bout killing her ex
. I like the song and don’t have a problem with it, but just imagine the shambles if a male rap artist said the same s*** nowadays lmao
It's fine because she's reference a movie. No but really it's because SZA is who Rolling Stones demographic listens to. The journalists would never put out a piece like this against her
She's in that Tyler, Billie Eilish, Frank Ocean lane. You friend with the vinyl wall that retweets Melon listens to her, She's a safe pick when someone asks who you listen to, you'll hear that "My man is your man" song playing in the background at Nordstrom, the essay youtubers are breaking down every metaphor on her album, she was on SNL this month.
She's in her Chance 2016 or Post Malone 2018 bag rn. You can't say anything negative or they'll come for you in the replies. You'll wake up canceled. They'll take your house. Your wife's leaving you with the kid. My brother in christ it's obvious why SZA and her misandrist isn't under the same scrutiny as Future. She's making too much money and bringing in clicks for the right people

Of course. It’s obviously a touchy subject as evidenced by a 30 page thread but keeping things hushed is part of what got us into this mess in the first place. It wouldn’t be edgy if it wasn’t taboo at some point.
That’s a good point about hip hop in its essence being an outlet for all kinds of experiences. It’s why I can’t discount the racial component of it either; yes, this has been a conversation since Columbine, but now we have the added gravity of the fact that the rockstars are now rappers and it’s easier than ever for white america to dismiss their humanity as they die in front of us and promote the same in their work.
I’d love to see more nuance though, agreed, as much as it’s definitely unrealistic. In addition to what you said about them not necessarily having experienced it, the minute a message is deemed too corny it’s ignored by exactly the people who need to hear it. Off the top of my head, The Bigger Picture by Lil Baby was one of the best and only rap songs in recent years that managed to thread that needle perfectly. I don’t know who needs to say it or what needs to be said, but how it’s said is the bigger question. All I know is what we’re currently in isn’t sustainable.

I have a complicated relationship with Drake
I hate on here a lot but pass me the aux and it's going to be Passionfruit more often than not

No we're picking on misogynists and leaving the misandrists when it's to sides of the same coin. Know what I'm saying? SZA does as much damage as Drake and Future combined. On the other hand I think they're all harmless

if writing my thoughts out is considered fuming then I’m livid

Maybe I'll get clowned for this but I really think Earl does a great job of talking about mental illness in a very nuanced and approachable way that feels real to his experience. A song like Shattered Dreams messes me up because his experiences are delivered in such a disarming, matter of fact way without being glamorized. "No one told me I could leave" gives me chills.

It’s because you got that kendrick stan side of ya that wants to go at drake stans all the time which means being contrarian towards anything drake related
