This was great and now I want to dive back into French New Wave cinema plus Zoey Deutch looked right into my eyes in person
enjoyed watching this a lot more than Breathless itself, another breezy linklater hangout movie
Contemplating seeing this at the Austin premiere happening at Linklater's theater here, but man are tickets for it priced a lot to say the least
Watched Breathless last night and really like it so I’m excited for this now
out now
If you like movies about making movies you’ll like this. It’s a good showing of the messiness of making a movie. Although I’m sure amateur filmmakers will take the all wrong lessons from this lol
He did it again
Only Richard Linklater would follow up a movie like Hit Man with a movie about Jean-Luc Godard and the birth of the French new wave era of cinema

Did you see blue moon?

Ah, so it's The Wolf of Wall Street all over again with tech bros

Lmao not in a toxic way like that. Well maybe some of that
But I meant that he breaks a lot of filmmaking rules (i.e. continuity) and newbies like to break rules in an attempt to be innovative without having ever learned the rules in the first place
Linklater is one of the only filmmakers i'd trust to make this subject worth watching.
The fact that he chose this era and film is very disappointing, especially since Linklater has done so much to try and get people to stop focusing so much on 60s Godard & New Wave. But that's also the reason why I'd give Linklater a pass here.

“Fuck a script ima do it like Goddard”

And then blue moon lol
Blue moon sounds and looks like the much more worthwhile movie. This kinda seems like an interesting creative exercise to come from linklater specifically, one of the few dudes making movies rn who started a movement and shaped movies of a decade the way these people did in the 60s, but idk how worthwhile it’ll be as its own movie. Blue Moon has a better sounding story and hook imo. And I’m someone who knows the French movies and doesn’t know much about hart/rogers/hammerstein

both are great movies examining eccentric larger than life figures in different ways. one at the beginning of their career and the other toward the end
