I love plenty of Linklater’s films, but he’s one of the least stylish filmmakers I can think of—so it’s hard to imagine him tackling an era filled with so much stylish and experimental filmmaking.
This sounds good
he isn’t stylish but his tone & mood feels like a good fit for this
saw Everybody Wants Some!! for the first time yesterday & wish I’d watched it sooner
If I speak on Breathless…

I dont f*** with Godard like that in general lmao, Breathless is like a 7.5/10 to me. Love Rivette, Rohmer, Truffaut and Chabrol but Godard's movies are a little too tongue-in-cheek for me

Oh s*** I thought my take was hot but the thread aligned lmao
Love linklater and I went through a new wave phase like many people did, but this doesn’t look very interesting to me. A movie about the making of breathless, shot (faithfully, to my eyes) to look like breathless.
Seems like two layers of like inside baseball that cancel each other out and makes it seem like there’s nothing there to actually connect with or enjoy. Although I’m hoping it goes into the thoughts and energy that went into the genesis of new wave and that’ll be the actual meat of the movie
