I think that rappers that dont study the game f***ed the game

Like, every young blood is trying be a new Playboi Carti, but they dont even study his refs, like Tech n9ne, old lil Wayne, old gucci and try create something new

I started liking rap because of 50 Cent, the I go deep on Eminem/Dr.Dre, then I dig on his refs like Rakim, KRS-One, and s***. At a point that I was listen on some Jazz and blues

People RN is just shallow, and dont go deep on culture

Respectfully I don’t think this is true. Plenty of newcomers are nerds and I’d argue there’s potential to be even more studied now bc the internet has more information than ever and it can be delivered to them in short form content instantaneously

I think that with time, a lot of new cats will delivery better s*** puttin more work and hours on his crafts

At same time, a lot of people are dumber nowdays with TikTok s*** and easy dopamine/technology

A lot of new rappers just use auto-tune and 808's beats, and dont put real effort on his crafts

“I want rappers who just started dropping music 2-3 years ago to be at the level of the greatest rappers and singers of all time, that sounds fair”

rap is 30 years in and still being expected to create legends from the golden ages of rap that we discredit what’s going on today smdh, they won

then why is the conversation and a majority of the comments in this thread always presented in a way that talks down on rap and current rappers ya’ll reinforcing narratives and talking points about the genre you would hate if “they” used it against some of your favorites

you need a break from the internet lmao. I posted BigXthaplug who is significantly bigger in a mainstream context than all 3 names you listed. again, you not really tapping in and then using those few examples popular on the internet to judge what’s really going on IRL then circling back and s***ting on the same genre of artist you like by not taking the time to explore lol

I think niggas just be online too much and don’t realize they falling for propaganda and marketing. Rod Wave been on tour. Doja starts her tour in 2 weeks. JID starts his tour soon. Saba on tour. Amine been on tour. Doechii back on tour. Young Nudy going on tour with JID. Key Glock wrapping up tour with Sahbabii next week. BigX got Yachty and Soulja Boy opening for him on his tour That Mexican OT been out tour. Rob49 been on tour. Osamason been on tour.

  • Nov 2, 2025

I don’t think listening to other genres would help rap necessarily. Rap has pretty much fused with every genre at some point what genres are even left at this point?

that’s 15 new age rappers I named currently on tours or about to start a tour but “rap is dead” because of white Billboard charts and more white talking points such as “these rappers suck cause they don’t listen to other genres”

ya’ll desperately need a break from the internet/KTT2/twitter/TikTok/IG and start just loving music. get out your heads bruh

I fell on the trap, lmao.

    Agree bro.

Its sad that we lost some names like XXXTentacion, Pop Smoke, Juice Wrld, that have the big star element and put work/time on they craft.

The new cats just need some time. I f*** with Skrilla music too.

your last 2 sentences is the problem and the simple fix for niggas questioning rap today lmfao

those younger huge rappers at the time died, which did affect mainstream, but as a result, it’s made niggas think that’s all the new age of rappers were and that there weren’t actually other stars or those with smaller clout like I listed who probably just performed in your city

time is what is needed and we not giving these new rappers any of it like back in the day with our favorites

it took Dot, Cole, and Drake 3-4 years to even find and reach their debut ability and sound choices for the projects and even after that, they still had to put in more work cause they still had no clout (aside from Drake)

the problem these lil niggas don’t respect hiphop ,or the niggas that came before them. niggas don’t know how to make classics because they didn’t grow up on hiphop classics.

This new generation don’t respect the craft

When I was 13 I knew classics from the 90s and 80s and respect the s*** out the genre. these niggas not real hiphop fans just looking for a quick buck because they got a little flow

Not every criticism about rap is an indictment on the entire genre. Idk why some of y’all get so offended when people say that the genre has been at a creative standstill during the 2020s

The problem is there is no bubbling rapper who is showing the potential to be 3-4 years away from doing anything like that. Y’all post these names that just aren’t moving the needle

Now compare this lineup of names to the new class at any other point in rap history and you’ll see how it doesn’t hold up whatsoever
