If you read the initial message, I said that it's pretty hard to get there when Rap Media/The Industry/The Internet are in shambles. It takes longer now..and some of the people that were getting really close died in towards the end of the last decade..that was a BIG setback. Pop Smoke, X, Juice Wrld, Lil Peep. They wouldve been critical pieces in how rap wouldve have matured in alternative spaces.

Kanye Drake Jay etc..all were able to benefit from those things (media, radio, tv exsposure, authority at the record labels) with a way more concentrated market.

We are in different times. It takes longer. It takes built in communities that are mature and understand and champion rap.

So when people s*** on the underground rappers it makes no sense. They are the ones that will be on those stages and have the best chances of being huge. (Ken Carson, Nine Vicious, Destroy Lonely, Che, etc)

People just want them to be/look like traditional rap artists. That is dead.

and then it's like..Lil Baby, Playboi Carti, NBA YoungBoy, and Lil Uzi exist...do these artists just mean nothing? are these not huge names produced in the last decade?

Do we seriously think there wont be more stars in rap? lol

brining up "Ken Carson, Nine Vicious, Destroy Lonely, Che, etc" after raps asked you who will be the next Ye Drake Jay Wayne or Kendrick is exactly why rap will most definitely continue to decline lmfao.

I don't even want tradition rap artists, I want artists that know how to say more than 3 syllable words lol

This wasn't why the industry stopped pushing Macklemore Sab please stop lying lmaoooo

  • good thread to bring up one of my favorite ktt posts btw

  • industry stopped pushing Macklemore because 1. the quality of his f***ing songs dropped it had nothing to do with him pushing p for palestine (while I do champion him for doing so)

    2. Public image from Grammy-gate did him in. Had nothing to do with "his politics"

Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us were flashes in the pan during an otherwise very very underground career.

You reference Same Love like most of us aint clown that joint for how corny it was is crazy.

But as someone that was listening to Macklemore since 2007 (Language of My World imo his best album), he's ALWAYS been pushing left-leaning politics man that entire seattle underground scene was known for that.

Yall let all these mediocre niggas with mediocre music into the game that tell you out of their own mouth that they don't care about rap and this s*** is just a bag to them and then wonder why the s*** sucks now.

These niggas can't rap, nor are they song writers, they just care about fashion and auta farming.

    Bring back gatekeeping.

Also the pace of releasing music is hurting the genre too cause s*** isn't allowed to sit in the oven and cook properly cause niggas gotta compete with the algorithm to stay relevant so niggas keep releasing half baked projects.

I think the death of mixtapes has killed the genre too and Im talking bout real mixtapes when rappers rapped over other rappers beats

Other than the last sentence, yeah this

  • Thank you hip hop expert Anthony Fantano

  • eversince

Also are mentors even a thing anymore? Why do it feel like ppl were taken under peoples wings before

    Kanye had No ID
    Drake had Wayne

Do stuff like that still happen?

If anyone can name more relationships like that then lmk

they saw what happened with don cannon and uzi
    & other influences of them

  • Bring back gatekeeping in the realest thing said in here

    raps

    Facts

Its like its mutually exclusive to them that melody means they have to also impulsively come up with random lyrics they dont think much about after getting super high and its like bro thats been tired as s*** for at least like 8 years. Using the cop out of “rap aint the same no more” to justify lower effort

Phil Collins or John Lennon had thought provoking lyrics at times and was melodic lol. Niggas scared to take a stance or have an opinion on anything in their songwriting they just want to be characters and preserve their brand

You THINK it’s lower effort but that’s simply not true and the portrayal as such is just because you don’t LIKE it

  • thread of old heads complaining about s*** that doesn’t exist cuz youth culture is what the youth likes and isn’t just replicating the things they like
