The electors of the electoral college are also voted in democratically. Even though they have no legal responsibility to voters, faithless electors have NEVER made any impact on the outcome of the election.

ok see this is a good point to criticize a democratic republic as a system of governance.

yes, democracy, at least how it's implemented here, is ineffective. thats the takeaway here. Not that the US isn't a democracy. democracy isn't some perfectly good always efficient system of government like i said it has a billion flaws.

no need to say "yeah us isn't a democracy bc if it was a democracy it would be better" because this just doesn't make logical sense

Black Africans are not systemically racist as a culture like you find in europe and asia

We can be tribalist but if anything we suffer from severe slave mentality where we elevate foreign people

If this crisis was in nigeria for example the average african would make sure the foreigners left first because we would see them as our guests.

The people who determine the electoral college are our congressional legislators who also have no legal obligation to their voters once voted in what the f*** do you think Sinema’s been doing for the past year?

And just because they haven’t disrespected democratic ideals YET doesn’t mean they can’t. What if a very popular democratic socialist wins presidency on a third party ticket? And he threatens the current political-economic structure of the US and it’s oligarchical beneficiaries? Do you really not think that the electoral college will not act faithlessly, especially when they’re chosen by people who regularly act faithlessly?

The US isn’t a democracy because it’s policy is far more in line with its rich elite and not in line with the opinions of its majority parties

The structure being democratic on paper does not mean that the outcomes of the system are democratic in practice. And being labeled a democracy matters entirely upon the outcomes of your government and not the structure it says it is

ok what system do you suppose would make the outcomes more in line with the people's opinions?

what government structure would work better or be more democratic?

also that last point is super bizarre

so if lets say france went back to being a monarchy, but the monarch's decisions just happened to almost always fall in line with what most ppl wanted, you would say it's more democratic than the US? even though the people under this hypothetical monarchy have way less actual power over anything? (not to say that US citizens have much power at all, but it's certainly more than subjects of a monarchy)

my point is, deciding what to label a governmental structure based on the outcome is totally bizarre, ignores any actual power dynamics present, and completely ignores the fact that outcomes are direct results of the systems in place.

whether or not a state is a democracy depends on how the government is run, not on how good the outcome is.
