The USSR offered to invade Nazi Germany and overthrow Hitler with the French and British, but they refused, because to them the NSDAP as a bulwark against communism was preferrable to the KPD of course.

So they gave them the Sudentenland, without Czechoslovakia having any say in those negotiations of course. The British, French and Polish refused to sign a joint defensive military pact with Czechoslovakia and instead they went to Munich to hand the Sudentenland to Hitler, while Czechoslovakia wasn't even allowed to attend! Even after all this, the Soviets wanted to defend Czechoslovakia from being fully annexed by Nazi Germany, but they were denied passage by Poland. And the British even threatened to freeze Czechoslovakian assets if they denied German sovereignty over their land
Only after all of that, the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact came to be. The Soviet Union correctly observed that the West had no interest in fighting against the Nazis, and were willing to force other countries to give up sovereignty over their land to Nazi Germany. Knowing that the Nazis were eventually going to attack them, the pact was a desperate move by the Soviets to buy themselves time from the German attack against them that the western powers proved to not be interested in preventing. Even after their declaration of war, there was no western front until may 1944
