May 16, 2022·1 replyVisionaryI agree with your general point that people use verbose vernacular to sound intelligent when they’re dumber than a box of rocks - see Michael Eric Dyson - but in this case it’s apt.
Antipop is a good term because it’s not only that Kendrick made a “not pop” album, it’s like he purposely did it the opposite of a pop album. Ironically, this kind of pretentious soundscape (to go against mainstream sound) is usually lauded by the critics.
I think time is up for Kendrick in terms of being the white liberal darling. He didn’t go hard enough for his Auntie and kind of cocked up his olive branch to them - like Chapelle did.
This isn’t anything like what Chapelle did, what the f*** do you mean?
Chapelle was making jokes at the expense of trans people, then got in his feelings when people (rightfully) criticized him for it, and it’s not even like they were original jokes to begin with. Like, I feel like people are being intentionally obtuse and refuse to properly navigate the subject matter of the track, or consider what the intent of it is.
