Nothing falls into the category of 'purely theoretical' more than socialism
Cuba and Vietnam say hello
If government was smaller - like it should be - then government wouldn't have any power that corporations could lobby for
the power would be in the corporations themselves

I'm referring to the ideals of socialism actually resulting in a successful society

that creates an even worse situation. ISPs are natural monopolies, meaning that the initial fixed costs are massive (building the infrastructure to provide internet), but the marginal costs are consistent and small (hooking each person up to the network).
This means that the ISP industry naturally gravitates to 1-2 companies that had a head start in gathering capital and establishing infrastructure (in our case AT&T and Verizon, with AT&T actually having a LONG history of communications f***ery).
These companies can now set whatever prices and rules they want, especially since net neutrality has been overturned.
A classic and dystopian example- Verizon slowing down the internet of California firefighters while they were using it to coordinate a response, because they hadn't gotten the latest upgrade. Still think that the government should stay out of it?
How?
if government didn’t have as much regulatory power then predatory monopolies would florida and corporate responsibility would basically be zero. The reason a number of predatory practices in corporations exist is BECAUSE of a lack of regulation and not vice versa. Do you think these companies are actually affected by boycotts when they have such a large hold on western markets?

Cuba is a pretty successful society when you consider the fact that the largest economy in the world is effectively blockading it for no reason other than the fact that it won’t allow for its citizens to be exploited by businesses
why are people still on this libertarianism wave, pretty much every reasonable economist agrees that market failures are a thing .. if you cant see that america is FILLED with blatant examples of this idk what else to say

Of course there's room for some regulation to be in place
But you can't tell me that government isn't bloated more than it should be, and that that has an effect on lobbying and corruption
All I'm saying is government should be smaller than it is currently, not completely vacant of any sort of regulation
bro said “let the government hand power to the economic entity”
did you pass 7th grade history

Pretty much every economist agrees that communism and socialism are failures and messes
That's a nil argument to bring up, regardless what point you're tryna make

lol why didnt you respond to the post where i actually explained my argument

my reply to that is lumped with the one to the other guy

the government should be far, far larger in regards to how it oversees corporate existence in america at the least. There should be much more stringent regulation on labor and wages, an end to lobbying, no corporate subsidization, and a nationalized component to every major industry in the country. To say that the government is “bloated” is only a dumb and ignorant way to iterate that corporations already have a large hand in the government to further their own economic agenda when the real issue is bloated corporations that are too big to fail taking advantage of a government that both allows for their control and is filled with people that profit from it

So in other words, you want a centrally planned economy?
my reply to that is lumped with the one to the other guy
because the point is that the government hasn't regulated in any of the ways it actually needs to. maybe its bloated in the sense that it maintains countless broken and inefficient systems and blows billions on bombing people in the middle east ..
So in other words, you want a centrally planned economy?
literally what part of his post indicated that
So in other words, you want a centrally planned economy?
of course. There is no profit motive within a centrally planned government to the extent of corporations, because there are no
investors, there are no stocks, there is no business aspect.
It is all realistically able to be well funded through tax and since it is a service and not a business then profit is not an issue

fr this guy thinks the fact that our senators will willingly blow 138 million for a cruise missile because they have stocks in those companies and their election security is in those companies’ lobbying funds is a sign that the government needs LESS regulation

i think you just mean that you want things like water and energy utilities to be nationalized and democratically owned/operated?
i mean i dont think the idea of some planning is terrible, esp with modern technology, but thats a whole separate controversy i feel like

a profit motive drives innovation, it drives competition, it drives companies actually making an effort to earn the dollar of consumers
overarching government control = stagnation

I agree that major institutions and utilities should be nationalised, the rest should be free

yet the internet was built by government subsidies before being privatized and handed off to mega corporations.
also there is room for market exchange and price signals under some variants of socialism. public goods should still be operated because the profit motive has been overwhelmingly disastrous for them.

the folllowing industries should be completely nationalized:
The following should have national/public options

well market exchange and price signals is capitalism, not socialism
