if u smoke u need to be fried, doesn’t make as much sense sober
Nah, you just need to be heartbroken
Okay now we all need to collectively hunker our expectations. It’s obviously not gonna be terrible but I don’t wanna see a bunch of ‘yeah it was amazing but the reviews overhyped it a bit’

This movie really feels like such an anomaly because it has such a huge budget, yet we know there more than likely won’t be a sequel.
And it’s from a director like PT, who exists more in the film nerd sphere as opposed to someone like Ryan Coogler for instance, who had huge money makers under his belt prior to Sinners, so he could jump off of Creed and Black Panther recognition.
Movie like this feels like it would an AppleTV production a la Killers of the Flower Moon with a more limited release type push, but this is a big studio movie.
I’m so curious to see how it performs.

I think worldwide it’ll do $250M-350M

Paul said that's dumb and he plans on making movies till he's dead
i liked everything ive seen from him (magnolia, inherent vice, there will be blood) but im not moved by his work the same way everyone is (for the most part). im glad he does what he does though
You haven't seen the best one yet

alright the silly dork police are on the way your days are done
BE NICE DAWG!!!!!!!!!
Finally saw Hard Eight for the first time. I’m … not impressed ngl. Couldn’t help but check the run time every so often. Still I can see the foundation for some of his signature camera and character work in his later films and it’s not a bad film it’s just paced weirdly to me
The next week will be rewatch time for the rest of his filmography. I’m excited to see how Boogie Nights has aged for me next

Yeah I did the same last week and had similar feelings. I really do enjoy the first half and the setup for everything but the motel scene and onwards just falls kind of flat.

Boogie Nights is still a rollercoaster
Katherine Waterston in Inherent Vice, so fine
Bro, the scene where she's playing with her nipples is an ALL TIMER
PTA ranking rn:
1. There Will Be Blood
2. One Battle After Another
3. Phantom Thread
4. Boogie Nights (was #2 before I rewatched it a couple weeks ago. Maybe I just wasn't in the right space for how depressing it can be)
5. Punch Drunk Love
6. Licorice Pizza
7. The Master
8. Magnolia
9. Inherent Vice (need to rewatch this and not focus on the plot so much tbh)
10. Hard Eight
it's getting too difficult to do these rankings now
