PTA's forays into action, like the oil fire in There Will Be Blood and the car crash/fight in Punch-Drunk Love, are standout scenes in otherwise dull films. I suspect Vineland will be similar—dynamic action scenes amidst a limp, loose, ineffective story. That's why I think PTA would excel as a director for hire, bringing other people's stronger scripts to life.
