how do you afford shooting w Leo for a whole damn year lol
he must not be taking any salary for this lol
Inherent Vice is for sure PTA's most fun and kind of generally one of the most fun recent films to me tbh, super excited for this just for the Pynchon x PTA return. If this manages to be a success movies might be back

agree 100%, as for the books, i'd say that vineland is waaaay zanier & oddball compared to inherent vice, so it should be a fun time

i hit a bit of a wall with pynchon but vineland completely brought me back last year, one of my favorite books ever

Thoughts on Gravity’s Rainbow?

Which one is a good first read for a first timer between V and Gravity's Rainbow

i'd say V, but i haven't done gravity yet, V is his debut tho so why not
the crying of lot 49 would be great to do after that

IMHO .. it’s like two different authours.. GR is a really difficult read to keep track of. I probably wouldn’t have explored more of his work if I started there

Yeah I've heard that Gravity's Rainbow is obscure with some literal s*** parts
but I've been going back and forth on where to start with Pynchon

I recently read that it’s supposed to give you the feeling of living with the uncertainty of a bomb dropping on you.. which is what they’re living through in the book. Like a mental state where you can’t hold long-term thoughts or plans, just fragmented.. and it reads that way. I’m into the concept but it’s just a lot of effort before bed 😆

Yeah I love how this sounds no lie

I struggled to get into V tbh, Crying of Lot 49 was a perfect starter tho. not long but introduces you to a lot of his quirks, also took me a moment to get into the groove but it really pays off, still a favorite.
I've been terrible w reading lately but just picked up IV again which is also def pretty accessible and fun read

ah man im the wrong person for that, its too much going on in the book, and its not really plotty, its just like rich vignettes constantly moving and shifting locations and perspectives with this freewheeling energy, its a lot of fun and a perfect fit for PTA
it makes sense that he finally felt ready to take this on after he did licorice pizza which feels like a perfect set up for whatever this thing ends up being

I was gonna say LP didn’t have a plot really and kinda went all over the place

this comment from that article
PTA's forays into action, like the oil fire in There Will Be Blood and the car crash/fight in Punch-Drunk Love, are standout scenes in otherwise dull films. I suspect Vineland will be similar—dynamic action scenes amidst a limp, loose, ineffective story. That's why I think PTA would excel as a director for hire, bringing other people's stronger scripts to life.
