I’ve been consuming so much content around this so I may be wrong but yeah check out their review and interview from Wednesday I will try to make sure too
Yeah I love hearing anything about the writing process
Deadass? That’s amazing
ya they def at least mention it on the big picture mailbag episode
i think they might mention it in the previous episode too in the PTA/Leo interview part but not 100% sure
because it literally consolidates billions of people to only be perceived one way. i’d argue the black community has been represented on a much wider spectrum than someone like asians or arabs in hollywood.
if pta wrote teyana taylor a certain way then cool, she’s an adult, she read the script, got paid for it and killed it, move on.
I absolutely agree on the Asian and Arab front. My post is not even an objective critique I just have unresolved feelings and questions. Not arguing a anything out of myself or that this is anything less than a five star. The movie has a lot in its mind and I will try to think critically about it. How do I feel about characters saying s*** like « wet and stinkies » just because it makes me uncomfortable doesn’t make it wrong but I do examine it. Who’s laughing at what etc etc. Like licorice pizza and the Japanese wives and exaggerated accents.
I think about it and I think PTA thinks about it too. Curious if others have thought too on ktt and maybe you think I’m a b**** for it, that’s fine enough. Ain’t a moral thing, I just respect the film enough to engage with it on a deeper level.
Such a bad take i wanna throw my phone after reading it
Dunkirk is one of Nolan’s weakest. It’s an okay war film
they saying Benecio added that whole s*** after they already started filming
He da goat fr

Just rewatched after a long time. It's good
It’s not a bad movie just one of my least favorites from him. His filmography too strong

Good movie, but not one of my favorites from him

No for sure, I know for me it’s perfect. It’s provocative for sure so I wouldn’t try to tell them they were wrong for it being too much. Same goes for the whole reveal that Willa is black with the Christmas adventurers. That was he funniest scene I’ve seen in a bit. I still need my second view. Been obsessively ingesting OBAA content cuz I’m on vacation till next weekend and can’t get to a theater

The licorice pizza thing with the Asian accent was clearly meant to be a goof on that guy rather than a sincere "Asian accents are something to laugh at" commentary...Cooper Hoffmans character IMO was laughing at how stupid and ignorant that guy was and not so much bc he liked it which I think is how the audience was meant to react...funny bc the guy is clearly a moron but not funny bc of the stereotype itself
Just like when he replaces her with someone younger later dudes just a piece of s*** lol same with Penns character later on and the Safdie character
What is Vista Vision?
prob the best explainer

Yea I totally agree, there’s an initial yikes to it but on my rewatch of that film (and the passing of some of my older family members) I learned to take LP like listening to a wistful boomer recount their childhood romantically but the queasiness of parts of it eg age gap, racism, etc keeps it real and specific and not overly saccharine / delusional about it. Kinda an interesting contrast with OUATIH where I feel it just straight prefers the era and how men comported themselves within it.

If anyone listen to the Big Picture in their most recent episode talking to Adam Nayman he does a far more eloquent job in touching on some of the ambivalence I’m playing around in my head. Great convo!

I didn't get that from OUATIH personally but yeah both films don't shy away from the ignorant, taboo s*** back then that was more acceptable than in today's age...like Pitts quip about "don't cry in front of Mexicans" is hilarious bc of how random it is in the film but I don't think it's meant to be a "yeah he's right!" Moment...same with Leo's disdain for hippies it's funny but not necessarily supposes to imply he's on the right side of history
